Sony DVD - can problem be avoided?

I recently replaced my stock RCA DVD player with a new Sony bluray, wi/fi unit, do not know the model number offhand. I am having an ongoing problem with it and don't know how to avoid, if at all. Apparently, sometime when the unit is without power, for example disconnected from A/C power when travelling, it will not power back up unless I unplug it and plug back in again. I suppose this is some kind of surge protect in the event of power outage and restart. If you don't already know it is a MAJOR headache to get up into that cabinet over the drivers seat and un-plug the power cord and plug back in. This seems to be the only way to get it to power back on. Will not come on by either remote or switch on unit. Has happened several times, but not always.

Ideas, suggestions??

Why not just turn off the circuit breaker feeding it. That should do the same thing to reset it.

I will have to try that, thanks. Not sure why that would not have same effect as disconnect and reconnecting A/C power but will try.

Is there a firmware/software update for the player? Contacted the vendor technical support? Failing to resolve the problem with the device anything that can remove power from the unit, such as flipping the breaker of the circuit or installing a switched power strip in a more accessible location as workaround.
