important information for those with Sprint EVDO data plans, or considering one:
http://www.EVDOinfo.com/Sprint5GB
Keep in mind that MOST RVers will never transfer 5GB of data in a billing month, but some will.

Thanks for posting that information, Alex. I got a Compass 597 from Sprint a couple of weeks ago and have been on the fence as to whether to keep it or return it within the 30 days. This might make a difference in my decision.

I have a Verizon plan now with the 5G limit. Have only come close one time, and that was after some HUGE downloads and lots of on-line work during that month. FWIW, I don't see it as much of an issue for most folks.

Alex thanks for the info!
Is nothing sacred anymore? I am really getting sick of this kind of unethical business practice. We were one of the Verizon early shut off victims, and I do give Sprint credit for offering an opt out, however I still do not agree with this practice. They entered a SIGNED agreement with me, for 2 years of unlimited service, I have upheld my end of the deal by paying them a quite hefty fee monthly, on time, for internet service. Now, for whatever reasons, they didn't have the foresight to make it profitable, they decide to limit us. It isn't right.
I would understand if they let us finish our contract and then made us re-sign to a new contract. Again, I think Sprint is handling this better than Verizon did, as Verizon just sent us a letter and shut us off 30 days later.
I am curious to see how this all plays out, since nothing is really confirmed as of yet...

Hope this isn't off topic but here is a link showing what it would take to use 5GB's a month.

What worries me isn't the 5GB limit...I doubt I'd ever come close to that...but, rather, the 300mb limit when roaming.
We have a Sprint card and have been in areas where we are roaming on it. How much is 300mb???
I don't download video or audio, I just do email and visit RV forums such as this one. I do update stuff like AVG and Windows, but I wouldn't do that when in a roaming area because it's *really, really* slow (less than dialup).
I also don't understand how they can terminate your contract if you go over the monthly limit...isn't that what got Verizon into trouble?

When I called sprint today, they denied this, and their customer service rep stated she spoke to her supervisor, and they had not heard this yet either. I would like to opt out now that they are changng the agreement, but i dont think it will be so easy.
This is the e-mail I got from a service rep:
"Sorry I had a meeting and then got very busy taking calls! I did speak to a supervisor and they had been told nothing about us putting a cap on the unlimited for data cards. She informed me that even if they do that in the future since you already have the unlimited plan you would more than likely be grandfathered into the plan so that you could keep it the way that it is! So as of right now nothing has changed!"

Of course all this is speculation that Sprint will actually impose any kind of limits but you would think that if they do then they would give you a way to monitor your monthly usage.
FWIW, I've been very happy with the Sprint air card even though I've now had it only a little over 2 weeks. One feature I didn't even know about was the GPS. I found I was able to link it up to my Delorme map program and use it while driving to map my position. Pretty cool!
