Hi new rver,
I just got away from NET10. NET10 is another brand owned by the same company as Straight Talk. There are 4 or 5 brands that are all owned by the same parent company. To hear the different brands, call 888-251-8164. Follow the prompts and you will hear the Brand choices. They buy bulk minutes from the major carriers and resell them to you and me (along with a new phone that can only be used with their network). I live in South East Florida. We have several million people in the area. NET10 shows the same coverage area as AT&T. It took about a week of no signal from NET10 to just get rid of them and go back to AT&T. With NET 10, you'll enjoy talking to Asia for any support you need.

I've learned these networks do use the AT&T towers. They must have a special deal where their customers are treated differently than AT&T customers. With AT&T I have signal up, down all around town. Also, in and out of buildings.

Coverage is the key to wireless communications. NET10 and maybe Straight Talk did not have the coverage.

My Straight Talk phone has the exact same voice coverage my Verizon phone had at barely half the cost. I've never used Net10.

Straight Talk has an unlimited talk, text and data plan at $45/mo, but the data is not like a real smartphone; the browser on the ST phones is clunky, but yes, you can check your email on your ST phone.

I don't think any Straight Talk phone can be tethered to your laptop like your friend describes, and they don't sell an aircard, as far as I know.

We have been on Straight Talk for two years now, it is the same cell tower service as Verizon but we only pay $45 per month with unlimited service. Only found one or two locations we had no reception (but neither did anyone else either).

Look here No Contract Cell Phone Plans

For about $10.00 more than what I pay Verizon I can triple my service. One draw back you need to belong to AARP

I use Straight talks 30 $ a month plan . Gives me 1000 min of talk time . For me that is unlimited. Yes you do have to buy the phone from ST, and the phone you buy will determine the tower/service that you get. The phone I bought cost 30 bucks and works off of Verizon towers . I had verizon before and reduced my bill by $20 and have the same service .. I am satisfied

We have one Straight Talk phone Samsung R451C and one Net 10 phone Samsung T401G. Both phones cost us a total of $45.00 a month which is less than I had on the cheapest plan with Verizon for only 250 minutes.
With both being a Samsung we use the same chargers. Both phones have the slide from the side keyboards.

Having both ATT and Verizon when one is out of network --happens hardly ever--the other phone usually works. We use the 30.00 a month all you need plan for the Straight Talk and never use all the minutes or texts-- but they do not rollover.

The Net 10 we buy the 300 mins for $30.00 and they are good for 60 days and roll over if you refill before the 60 days are up so this phone costs 15.00 a month and with roll over this phone now has 1184 min. from roll overs. We use the Straight talk for texting, sending pics and most calls. So both phones-$30.00 and 15.00 add up to $45.00 a month and between the two each month we have 1150 min, 1000 texts, and 250mb internet.

As far as internet on these phones yeah it works I find it frustrating but then I have not used mobile web very often.

One thing I learned from Forums on these phones is don't pay ahead, pay as you use and do not give them your credit card except for one refill at a time. Don't let them auto bill. If you lose/break your phone you lose all your minutes no refunds. I have not had a problem with customer service but others have reported frustrations with them. I have refilled both online and by phone and it worked fine. If you don't refill by your due date you cannot make or recieve calls except maybe 911. You can only buy Straight Talk phones and refill cards at Wal-Mart. With Net 10 you can buy refill cards everywhere.
