Straight Talk Phones
Can any of you knowledgeable folks help us find out if our Sprint MB855 and an iPhone 4 will work on Straight Talk?
These phones were given to us and we now need more than just phone service now that we are FTers.
The Sprint phone has a password screen that comes up when entering the Straight Talk activation number ##72786#. Does that mean the phone is locked? Or, does it mean it can only be used on the Sprint network?
Thanks for any help you can provide,
Dave

I did not see anything specific to your needs on this site, but maybe you can dig deeper or give them a call.
Reviews of them are not the greatest.

The phones would need to be unlocked for you to use them. If they were previously on another carrier under contract, more than likely they are locked.
You can see more about bring your own phone here

For the iphone 4 specifically you may be able to use it by buying a SIM card from Straight Talk and activating it in the phone, but *only* if the phone was not previously used on Sprint or Verizon. See how here:

After getting scammed by one web site for an unlock code I finally found one that said they could not provide the code. It must be unlocked by Sprint. I find that hard to believe.
So, my question is, do I need to "root" the phone, what ever that means, to get by Sprint's locking code? Is there another way to get past their "Enter Passcode"
BTW, the advice to get the sim card from Straight Talk worked just fine for the iPhone.

I own a iPhone with Verizon and looked into Straight talk but ended up with PagePlus after some advise here. They use Verizon towers and after a month of use, I could not be happier and have more money in my pockets. Thanks to those who helped.

Not sure if you've already solved this, but just in case. To convert a phone from another carrier over to Straight Talk, all you need is a phone that can accept a SIM card and depending on what type of phone it is, has also been unlocked. Radio Shack offers a service to unlock phones for a fee. Not all do but most do; I would call ahead if possible and check to make sure. They would also be well equipped to answer any questions or solve any problems you may have.
I have Straight Talk service and I love it. $45 a month for everything unlimited is great. The only problem is spotty service on the road, so I'd also get a range extender or a back up phone on Verizon. Radio Shack'd probably have that as well.
Hope this helps.

I called Radio Shack and they told me it is against the law FCC rules to unlock phone from another carrier and if there are any Radio Shack's doing that they are not corporate stores. The rep also told me that if you are not currently under contract that if you call Verizon Customer Service they may unlock your phone for free. Guess I will find out. My wife did find a you-tube link on how to do it yourself on line with a step by step instruction.

Just don't fall for those "unlock code" scammers on the internet that are willing to sell you the code.

Straighttalk phones work off a variety of different systems (Verizon, ATT, Sprint, T-Mobil). We bought our first Straighttalk phone to work off the Verizon towers (the code for the system is on the box you see at the store), but here in Texas (this park) we weren't getting a signal.
I contacted Straighttalk via email and asked what phones they had that would work off the ATT network, within a couple of hours I recieved a reply with a list of current phones, we bought one and swapped our number to it.
Works great!

Another tech-savy friend of mine asked me if I have checked out this company yet
solavei.com
$49 a month, unlimited everything, 4G network
We had never heard of them. My wife found a vidio link on their site to see if your current phone is compatible to get code off of your phone.
I was wondering if any one else has heard or seen of this provider and how you like it?
