I just installed Windows 7 Upgrade over Vista Home Premium. Please check my Blog for details.

Colleen was trying to run Streets & Trips 2009 this evening and she got the following EC:

"Your registry settings for this application were not copied correctly. To correct these settings, run "Setup" for this application from the location where you installed it from."

This EC was generated by just clicking on the icon and trying to run the app normally. I said, "I'll get this", so I researched it and found a tip about right clicking on the icon and running the app as administrator. I have to admit this was key information.

Previous to this I disabled my NAV and firewall and uninstalled and reinstalled the S&T including re-inputting the key code. Still did not launch normally.

Clicking on the administrator function and accepting the security prompt S&T 2009 started right up. TaDa!

I have to hand it to the Windows 7 Team. Even though the S&T didn't run, W7 ran a compatibility checking wizard and I was able to run that app 2 times and finally the wizard arrived at the correct solution to start the S&T and it saved the settings. S&T now starts up in the administrator mode, there is a security prompt to which you need to answer "Yes" or allow and S&T will start up.

So if you have that problem, I hope you will find this work around useful. BTW this is a related subject because we use MS S&T09 on the road in our motorhome.

Very shortly now, I'll uninstall the 09 and go for the 10 to see if I can get this thing to start normally. Very basically, the registry is seeing this as a rights issue. I restored the firewall and the NAV. Done.

Excellent information! Thank you!

At this point whatever I install on this machine would be directly into the OS and not part of the upgrade process.

Dick,

Do you like 7 better than Vista, I know, a dumb question anything is better than Vista but I wanted to know if you had any capability issues.

I'm also running S&T 2009 on Win7 Home Premium. Did an upgrade from Vista Home Premium and S&T continued to operate as usual. No glitches at all.

I was using S&T 2007 wo issues on XP and Vista home premium. I upgraded to S&T 2010 and it ran fine on Vista home premiium. I then upgraded Vista to Win7 Home Premium. S&T 2010 still seems to be OK.
When I did the upgrade to Win7 I used the upgrade option supported by Dell. Dell's software interacted with Microsoft and checked the compatibility of all the software (apps, drivers, etc) installed and updated those that had a problem. One or two were not able to be updated but they seem to run fine. Using the Dell upgrade method was relatively painless. This was on a laptop purchased in August 2010.
I also updated my desktop from Vista home premium to Win7 Professional. The software package I had did not allow an upgrade but I had to do a clean install. This required the complete erasure of the C drive and build new partitions. I also had to completely re-install all of the Software apps such as MS office. Also had to find a few drivers missing from the install such as my webcam. Very time consuming and you need access to your original install disk or download from the internet. The Win7 installer does however create a windows-old folder with all the support files from the old vista install. Haven't seen any compatibility issues yet.
Using win7 has a learning curve. For example the network sharing screens and procedures are different. But basically it is very similar to Vista and does seem to run faster and it takes less memory. So far, no complaints. If you forget what you did in your old system and view the Win7 interface as a novice and read the instructions it is very intuitive and logical. When I try to do something the same way I used to do it it seems to be confusing because i can't find the screen I want.

Generally the best way to do an up grade to any new operating systems is to first uninstall ALL software and then do the up grade. Next is to reinstall the soft ware within the new operating system. Doing this will prevent most of the problems.

You may need to uninstall your S&T and do a fresh install.
