Sub woofer - removed from cabinet in MH

In our recently acquired 2007 Holiday Rambler Ambassador the sub woofer was installed in a cabinet under the cook top. The 12" X 12 x12" Sony sub woofer made the 20"W X 23 D" X 21" H cabinet inconvenient to use. I removed the sub woofer and taped off the leads and then I built two drawers on full extension glides and the space is well worth the loss of the sub woofer.
I have a few questions about this:
  • Why would an RV manufacturer install something like this in an RV kitchen that is rather lacking for storage space? Our Alpenlite Augusta seems to have had more usable storage.
  • Will removing the Sony sub woofer pose any operational problems for the amplifier? I did do some checking around and I found that the amplifier (above the drivers seat) had an adjustment screw that was marked SW, which I assume is for sub woofer. The adjusting screw is set at the middle of its range so I think that I will turn it down to the lowest level. The audio system is by Pioneer and I will pose the question to them also.
  • The bulkiness of the Sony SW is such that placing it elsewhere in the coach may be a problem. Any suggestions for a replacement SW?
Thanks,

Lee

That does sound like a weird place for a subwoofer. Ours is installed under one of the dinette booth benches in the Bounder.

Use a separate SW box. It can be located anywhere. Mine is beside the cabin end table. It can go behind the drivers seat or passengers seat or under the couch.

Here's an example.
