I've had DirecTv DNS service for several years now and recently we quit full time. We're now home and settled in for the winter and I thought I'd save $20/mo by suspending my DNS service.
I found that I couldn't do this on line so I called. I spoke with a very nice agent who told me that they couldn't suspend our service but would have to cancel it... causing me to have to go through the waiver approval process again any time I wanted it turned back on!
I asked if this was a DTV rule or an FCC requirement and she replied that it was FCC.
I guess she looked at what a good customer I've been for the past 12 years and said she would spare me the pain. She asked if I was going to be home for about 6 months and I replied yes. She said she would issue a $20/mo credit to my account for the next six months and leave the service in place!
I was very pleased with the encounter. Not only did I get the charge off of my bill for the next six months but I also retained the HD feeds from both coasts. I should also add that the young lady I spoke with was in Texas and very plesant to speak with.
Maybe it's my longevity with them but when I called them about 5 months ago to say I was thinking about switching to cable they lowered my bill by $50/mo for a year.
I thought I had read about other members suspending their DNS but I guess not.
