A friend told me that he got the T-mobile network card which enables him to access the internet with unlimited minutes for $29.99/month. Has anyone gotten this system? What has your experience been? Do you have to have their cell service to get this?

I have had the T-Mobile network card for over a year. The sim chip will go in a cell phone but the service is more expensive. If you use an aircard (I have an erickson-sony) it is 30 bucks a month.
I find it works just about anywhere there is a majoe interstate and most cities. We have traveled over most of the Southeast and it works fine faster than dialup but not dsl.
You could get on the TMobile web site and find coverage areas. It is much cheaper than verion 70/mo unlimited.

One more thing get an aircard like the sony that has a place for an external antenna we bought one and it further improves service. We bought the card on ebay (unlocked) and went to t-mobile and got the simm chip for the card and signed up.
At that time they didn't have cards that accomidated an external antennae. I understand Tmobile is also comming out with the newest EDGE technology wich further improves the speed. The sony card is compatable with GPRS and EDGE

ok so I buy the network card from T-mobile and then an air card for $30/month. Am I also paying T-mobile a monthly charge on top of the air card monthly fee? Where does the air card & network card connect? I'm assuming the air card acts as a cell phone is that correct? How much time do you get/month?
This is all confusing to me.

No the aircard can be bought thru a sign up package like when you buy a cell phone the chip is included in the phone. OR you can buy the card and go tp tmobile and sign up for 30 bucks a month no long term contract kind of like going to a company with your own cell phone. The chip fits in the card and is a one time setup charge. If you have a cell phone you can put the same chip into that phone and use it for a cell phone but those minutes are extra. We have Altell for our cell phones and just use the card in the laptop for the internet and don't put it in a cell phone for cell service.
Here is a link to an aircard from t-mobile
T-Mobil network card

Sorry the link was wrong let me try again

At the time we decided to do this the t-mobile card didn't have an external antennae and we did some research and bought an unlocked aircard that had that capability. The external antenna is about 30 bucks and has a magnetic mount for the MH there are several companies that make them and it does improve your service. As I said we have had this setup for over a year and love it. Good luck

One last thing we got our aircard on e-bay it was less than dealing with the t-mobile folks and no 1-2 year contract.

I have it. Speed is up to 56k. Price is right at $30 / month unlimited. Coverage has been less than fantastic for me, but it's a lot cheaper than Verizon.

I also have an "open" aircard..bought on ebay.. I use T-Mobile access... Cost is Unlimited minutes $20.00 per month.. I use the sim card OUT of my Cell Phone.. if you have a separate sim card, just for the aircard, cost goes up to $30.00.... for $10 a month I can change the sim card very easily. Works great for me. I like this system as I travel a lot, and when in another country just use a prepaid sim card for that location for e-mails.
