I'm thinking we'd like to take our stick house living room DVR box to be able to record our favorite shows for the upcoming winter trip instead of the bedroom receiver we usually take on our trips. The bedroom receiver doesn't have recording ability. Anything to know here about taking the DVR with us? We've only had Direct TV since early summer, so don't know a whole lot! What's everyone else taking? Basic receiver or DVR?

We take our TiVo enabled DIRECTV DVR from the stick house with us anytime we travel in the motor home. Works fine. We lose local channels a couple of hundred miles out, but that's true with the non DVR boxes too. Since we don't record anything from them it's no big deal.
If you travel to different time zones your "to-do" list may get messed up depending on how the programs are entered - by star/stop time or by title.
We're very happy with the way the DVR works on the road. Would not leave home without it!

For the DVR, you have two receivers in one unit, you'll need two antenna inputs. Do you have that available at either the front or the bedroom TV positions?
-or-
I guess you could just hook one input into the receiver in the recorder position and not have the ability to watch tV at the same time.
We have Directv and it works great. The time zone changes are easily changed by going to the "Menu":
1- Parental fav's and setup- enter
2- System setup- enter
3- Display- enter
4- Clock- enter
5- Time zone- enter
6- Select your new time zone
7- "Exit" to leave the setup

Max,
We just use the one satellite input. We can still record a live broadcast while watching a different, already recorded show. We just can't record two different live broadcasts at the same time or watch a live broadcast on one channel while recording a live broadcast on another channel. Given our viewing habits, this arrangement works fine for us.
The DVR needs to know that only one satellite input is connected but that can be done in setup.

I used to take our DVR with us from the house (direct TV). You will lose network channels at some point ABC NBC CBS FOX and not be able to record your favorite shows. Also, depending on your rv satellite antennae you will not be able to get HDTV off the satellite. You can get what is called DNS or Distant network Service in which you will get the Major networks from New York or California. You have to apply for DNS which is easy but then you get a separate account for your rv and of course a separate bill. There is a lot more information about how to manage your accounts and not all the advisers at Direct TV are knowledgeable. Dish network has a monthly account and HDTV service. However, depending on the age of your rig you may not be able to distribute the HD signal with your Wineguard distribution box. If you want want more information send me a private message.
I currently use Direct TV with a DNS account. I have a DVR and a regular receiver hooked up permanently in the rig. I have no HDTV from the satellite but I do get HDTV from the bat wing.
