I am seriously considering switching to Dish TV to take advantage of their "free HD for life" offer. It appears to be true, but, I'm curious to see if any of our members have done this. Also, any discussion concerning the differences between these two companies would be appreciated.

Had both 6 of one, half dozen of another. They both do the same thing just slightly different. Watch out for that free HD for life offer, read ALL the fine print.

Time Warner advertises free HD also, except for their HD tier for those HD channels that aren't free!

I have had them both. Not much difference in the end product. Big difference I have noticed is the quality of customer service,(what could be more important however). Dish is much more customer friendly IMHO.

Dish Network's 'Pay as You Go' plan is also an advantage for us part-time RV'ers. When is Direc-TV going to offer a similar plan?

Direct TV also has an RV plan, reciever-tripod and dish. Seems to me it was $29.99 a month. Did not get to much detail-access www.directtv.com I found the link on the Directtv Packages I think the link was on the upper right, just said Travelers

I upgraded to Dish HD for life a few months ago in my home. An installer came out, replaced my receiver and my satellite dish. No charge. No change in monthly charges on my bill.

I just looked at that yesterday on "My Account" deals. It was for life with a "2 year contract" OR a one time payment of $99.00. Since I pay $10 a month for the Gold Hd plan I would be even in 10 months.
I own all my equipment and it is recent tech so should not have to have anyone come out.

Agree with JoeT, had mine changed over, new receiver, tech installed and set up. No charges. Totally satisfied. Also have an old 311 receiver in the MH and it cost another $5.00 per month. Not really worth calling to drop the service when at home.

The dish that DirecTV recommends on their "Travelers" (click on "Learn more" under "RVs") is a dome from either KVH Industries or King Controls...I saw nothing about a dish on a tripod, although there is a DirecTV dealer that advertises in some of the RV magazines that offers a single-LNB dish on a tripod and something like 50' of cable (you won't be able to get HD programming on DirecTV with a single-LNB dish). A dome is OK if you're not interested in DirecTV HD programming...if you are, you won't be able to get DirecTV HD programming with any dome.

The $29.99 per month is a "from" deal (i.e., packages "from" $29.99)...it only includes 150 channels. You can select other packages at higher prices with more channels.

Don't you have any older, maybe 4-5 years old, out of date information so we KNOW FOR SURE IT HAS NO VALUE, instead of one year old stuff that is only QUESTIONABLE?

Given time, HD will be the normal broadcast method if 3d does not take over.
