The End of Cell Phone 'Bill Shock'?
Guidelines unveiled on Monday by the wireless trade association, CTIA, will see companies send alerts to customers when they near or reach monthly limits on voice, text and data services, and before they incur international roaming charges.

Looks like the industry's trying to head off new FCC rules against these practices...
Poor Things!
Think we'll see a bunch of posts about "Big Gummint Anti-Bidness Conspiracies"?

I saw that on the news this evening. I wonder if people know that they can have those services turned of by the carrier. Our two phones are use strickly for talking. The Internet, chat, texting, etc., is disabled at my request. Even if I push the "Internet" icon it comes up and tells me it is disabled.
It's not just the cell phone carriers that one has to be aware of. Several years ago i sat with a calulator at Ma-Bell's billing invoice. It took several tries because I kept coming up that I was over billed by $1 (one). I called Ma-Bell and complained about it and told them that if they had made this mistake on the "millions" of customers, they have made some good money from those who never checked. They gave me a $1 refund on my next bill. Of course, they used my money for a month.
So check all bills of any type for possible "mistakes."

The way we use our cellphone, turned on only when we're away from home or when we want to call someone, has isolated us from this nonsense. As far as we're concerned, it's a phone - not a camera, not a teletype, not a portable compouter, not a data terminal - just a telephone. Saves us a lot of grief.
We recently abandoned Virgin Mobile, who re-sell Sprint's network, because we couldn't get coverage where we were campng. After asking a lot of folks who did have coverage, we found about even split between Verizon and ATT.
Since our daughter had recently ported her mobile number over to her employer's system, her "Family Plan" had an open slot, so we took it.
So far, the coverage issue is retired. We had a signal everywhere we went on our last trip. We just send DD a check every three months for $30. It's twice the price of our Virgin account, but the enhanced geographical coverage is worth it.

Give consumer celluar a try, they are great, no contracts, American people to help you, many options. Have used them for three years with very limited no coverage spots.
