Do all of the TPMS systems require metal valve stems? Also, I assume that most of them are "DIY"; are they relatively easy to install? Thanks!

I think that all recommend metal valve stems but the wheels on my toad don't seem to have any metal stems available so I use the shortest rubber ones I could find and it's been fine for three years.

I think all except for the ones which are mounted inside the tire are DIY and pretty simple to install. Programming the receiver requires a bit of study but it's not bad.

Good luck.

Rick

I use a system called TireMinder that uses very light sensors that they say can be used on rubber stems, and in fact that's how I have been using them and have not experienced any problems. The system seems to work well and I recommend it, and you can replace the batteries in the sensors vs. having to replace the entire sensor which saves a lot on money over time. A company called Tire Tracker sells an identical system but their web site seems to be down right now. I also recommend getting the range extender module if you have a large unit.

I agree with smiller. Tire-Minder is pretty darn good.

Thanks for the feedback; I'll check out the Tire Minders. (May be my hubby's Christmas gift, lol)

Do you think the range extender will be necessary for a 34' coach (no toad)?

I would advise getting the range extender if there is the slightest doubt since you want the thing to be stone reliable (as it's a safety item after all), so yes, I'd get it for a vehicle of that size. I have a 36' 5th wheel and the tires are 'way back there' so the link was sometimes marginal without the booster, but with the booster I can receive the signal reliably inside my house 150' away from the RV! It makes a huge difference.

Thanks!

Does anyone know whether the newer motor homes typically have metal valve stems? We pick our coach up on Friday, so I really have no idea whether the valve stems would be an issue. (2012 Fleetwood Bounder)

TireMinder, Hawkshead, TireTraker. All the same unit, just different name on the outside. Slightly different instruction sheet, however, so download them all. We've used our Hawkshead for 3 years and are pleased with it. Saved 2 tires on the toad, and found an occasional low tire on the rig.

Our Bounder came with 22.5 Alcoa wheels with metal valve stems. All the new motorhomes should have the metal valve stems.

Thank you! I was hoping that would be the case. I appreciate your response. How do you like your Bounder?

I use TST-510 on a 40' coach, no range extender needed. TST system came with one but it's still in the box.

Be warned, this is how I had to remove all 6 TST pressure sensors from my valve stems. It was a $250.00 lesson
