Would like to turn off the Travler dish control system between TV uses without having it stow and re-acquire each time I do so. There is an emergency off procedure in the manual that accomplishes this but I am not sure what I'll effects there may be to using an 'Emergency' method routinely.

Anyone turning this system without stowing each time?

Why? Once it's setup, it really isn't doing much, and I assume it isn't drawing much power.

While certainly not necessary to turn off, if you would like to power off the display you would use the noted procedure. Push the Power and Select buttons together and the display will go dark and power will be removed for the dish.

BILL,
Thanks Bill. No need replying on the Winegard site, too. I posted the question there also.

KJBURNS,
The unit puts out a good deal of heat, as does the DISH VIP211. I wanted to reduce power consumption and heat. Keeping the cabinet open to dissipate heat is a small problem since I am 6'5" and knock my head on the corner occasionally.

Thanks again for the replies.

Are you sure the unit is putting out heat or is it sitting on top of something that gives off heat. It does absorb heat well but the unit should not put out any heat to speak of on its own.

I will check again next week to be sure, Bill. I can damn near fry an egg on the Dish receiver which is sitting right next to it.

Yep, that's true! Now, separate the 2 with a spacer or a different location (hang it out of the cabinet for awhile) and see where the heat is actually coming from.
