Trip planning-iphone or laptop

We are planning a trip from Upper Michigan to Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina.
What apps do you use to find places to stop along the way because the drive will be about 15 hours and will want to stop at least twice to relax and spend the night.
By stopping twice that should break our trip to three 5 hour drives.

We love Trip Advisor app for iphone. We drive until we feel we are ready to stop for the night or in an area we would like to stay, ask the app for places near us, then chose from the reviews and prices. And we often get an internet price which is always great. In the reviews sometimes people will mention a great restaurant nearby too. We love Trip Advisor. Be sure to add your review too! Happy travels!!
I don't know why I assumed you will be traveling by car? Funny that I would think that since this is an RV site. There may be apps for RVs too. Don't know yet. We are newbies!

Your laptop most likely does not have location services so it is not a useful as a iPhone or iPad (or some of the Andriod devices).
DW, the navigator, uses both a Rand McNally GPS and Google maps on her iPad. The GPS is good for setting up routes and Google Maps is good for double checking the GPS and gives her a better overview of the route.

We are taking our FW we are not driving by car so we will need a place to stay that can handle a truck and fifth wheel.
An app for the Iphone would be great if you know of a good one to use.

We use Google Maps to get a basic look at the route. Then we use the Rand McNally RV GPS app for I-Pad to make the route. That way we find out where we shouldn't go in the RV. Then, using the Rand McNally app, we can find out where the recommended campgrounds, restaurants, rest stops, WalMarts, etc. are along the route for us to use in an RV.

Another tool we use to plan the route is campgroundreviews.com We basically don't use a campground or RV park if it's not listed favorably there.

IPhone or Android get the app Allstays. It has any free overnight parking. Campgrounds, state parks, fuel, repair, propane, bridge heights, etc. $9.99 or they may have a free with adds. Its a lot of things rolled into one. It takes you directly to websites, and Google maps for directions. You can't go a long with it.
