The Rand Mcnally Tripmaker 7710 is ON SALE on their website for $319.00 for a refrubished unit. Don't know if it includes the lifetime updates. Was told by tech support that all units do/will include the updates.

The product looks like a nice dedicated RV type GPS unit that offers a lot of great information. The price is good too since Amazon shows 399.00.

Has anyone heard any experiences with the new Magellan RV specific gps? They make it sound like they have done more homework than Rand did. I am not totally sold on my 5510. I realize the 7710 is the newest version, but I think the biggest difference is the screen. Except for the campground section (which is not very current even with an update last week), they seem to have just used a truck platform and added the RV language.

Based on my experience and what I have seen in some other threads here, RM will have quite an inventory of returned 7710s.

I returned mine after finding the screen unreadable due to reflected ambient light during most daytime use. Great features, though.

I also have the 5510 and 7710, both screens are not readable in sunlight, My Garmin sits alongside no problem to see it in sunlight. Other then that, the RMs work as good as it says.

Just saw a Sun shade on rand mcNally website for both the 5 and 7 inch GPS. It is difficult to see in almost direct sunlight. If it is on the dash it is going to be in bright light. Can't see it if it is hid in a drawer or under the dash.

Just logged over 2k with the new RM. summary, takes a lot of intricate work to use its more than available apps. But my great dw is very teky'. Only problem just yesterday it wanted to take us on a route that we knew was NOT up to date even expressing that we would encounter .4 miles of dirt road, not so. Just updated data before this trip to Fl. Will contact RM. features are excellent regarding needs for rv travel. Best of the New year year to all!
