Trouble keeping the flashing curser in place while typing
For quite some time now while typing on the Forums all at once the flashing vertical line just disappears and my typed letters quit showing up. Then I have to find the arrow (curser I guess it's called) somewhere on the page to re-establish the flashing line in order to continue typing. This may happen several times during a Post, (only once so far here) but it can also happen several times before I get the Post completed. It has happened on a couple of the other Forums also so it must be something with my laptop (HP Pavillion with Vista) or something (just happened again with the curser up in the top of this paragraph) I'm doing wrong.
Any computer experts have any idea what is either happening or what I'm doing to cause this? It gets real frustrating having to stop typing, find the curser, and re-establish my typing location before going on.
Really appreciate any h(gone again)elp or advice on this problem.

Sometimes moving your hands or wrists over the laptop touch pad can cause a cursor jump. Be sure you are typing with your wrists held above the touchpad (not resting on it). Have you tried restarting your machine?

Disable your touch pad. Usually by pressing the function key (or fn key) and then the F3 key.
Or, you could just tape your thumbs to the palms of your hands.

Let us know how you cure this. I had a laptop one time many years ago that you couldn't disable the touchpad.
I finally covered it with a piece of cardboard for similar problems.

Some of the newer laptops have a little button just above the track pad, between the track pad and the bottom of the keyboard. Depressing this button will disable the cursor from moving around and depressing it again will allow you to use the trackpad.
Does you computer have that?

Wagonmaster: Are you using the built in laptop mouse or using an external mouse. If using an external mouse. Try a different one, I have had this happen and found my mouse was shot. Replacing it fixed the problem. I never use the built in mouse on my laptop.

Batteries in the IR Mouse can be low and cause that problem. Eventually it should pop up a window that says, "Mouse batter low." However it starts acting erratically way before that happens.

I don't use a separate mouse. My issue was with the touchpad. TouchFreeze solved it.

I have tried using the external mouse, turning off the touch pad with the little button (red light comes on), and covering up the touch pad, but the situation still happens. But, the external mouse is fairly old and probably has the original batteries in it. I'll change the batteries and/or change to the newer mouse my wife has on her laptop, which is attached to the computer by wire instead of just the little plug-in.
Thanks for the suggestions.

What were your results after you changed batteries?

It seemed to help a little bit after installing new batteries, but the thing that seems to be the problem is I have to be sure the curser stays within the box where I'm typing. By locking off the touch pad that keeps me from brushing it with my thumb and sending the curser out of the typing box. I just have to be careful that I don't accidentially bump the mouse.
This has never been a problem with all 3 of my e-mail sites but I'll have to start paying closer attention with some of the other Forums.
