There are direct wire setups that have an eye you install near your set, a controller that goes near the receiver and an emitter that sticks on your receiver. All hard wire. There are also radio frequency setups that do the same without the wire. Do a Google search. Our Tiffin has the wire type and it works fine.

My Dad used mirrors to get the signal into another room. Sounds crazy, but it worked!

Yes, do a search for RF remote extenders and you should find several options. I use an RCA unit which allows you to place a transmitter in the bedroom and a receiver in the compartment with the DTV receiver. Now, when you want to change channels, you just point to the TX in the bedroom and it sends an RF signal through the wall to the receiver and the channel changes.
There are several versions out there. Radio Shack used to sell one. The Harmony remote by Logitech has an RF version as well.

At first I used an RF extender. I pointed the bedroom remote at a little box in the b/r... it converted the IR signal to RF and transmitted through the wall to another box near the receiver which then converted it back to IR for the receiver.

Now, I'm using an HD DTV receiver which has an RF option on the remote. Works great for the b/r AND outside TVs...

good luck...

I don't know about DTV but on my Replay TV units (DVR's) the remote has the range

Hoever, back when I lived at xxxxx street name, city/state/zip (means a stick house) the house had a main floor, and a basement.. Well, BBR (Back Before Replay) The VCR's were all on the main floor and the computer room was in the basment.. To control the VCR I used a Radio Shack Remote Extender

The one I had has two modules.. One (The "Receiver") needs 120vac and "cuts" into the antenna wire to the television. The other module, looks like a splitter only it has two headphone jacks instead of a 3rd antenna connection.. It "Cuts into" the other end of the same cable. NOTE, it is very important that you put the "Remote" module at the other end of the same cable.. If you have the Winegard wall plate with the 12 volt outlet, switch, light and antenna fitting that cable ends on the backside of this switch.. If you have the box of many buttons. it's the back side of that box.

From there a short (well perhaps six feet) line with an LED on the end snakes out in front of your Sat receiver.

Point at the receiver, the transmitter "Repeats" the signal.

I can't speak for the time back in history when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth, but the RCA remote extenders that I have used don't "cut" into anything. They simply rebroadcast the IR signal via RF. You put the TX in the bedroom, the RX where the receiver is located and point your remote to the TX. Both require 120V but there is no physical connection of any kind at either end.

The cone shaped RCA IR signal extenders can sometimes be found in second-hand shops such as Goodwill and the like. Good luck!!

I have the IR (infrared) extenders (not being used currently) and they worked fine from one end of the house to the other. You have an IR receiver in the remote location that transmits an RF (Radio frequency) to the unit near the DVR/Sat receiver. It retransmits an IR signal for the DVR/Sat receiver.

If you were coming to the National Rally at the Grand Canyon, I'd gladly give them to you.

Currently using an older Sony receiver which you can choose IR or RF.
Set to RF we can control the receiver from inside or outside the MH.

The Direct TV web site has RF remotes for sale for $25 and shipping is free.
See DIRECTV: Equipment : Remotes

It can control other devices also.

I don't know which receivers it will work with though.

I agree bill, but the one I use is both fails to generate significante RF and thus RFI, and is 100% RFI proof. A big plus with me.

Oh, a simple mirror can often do the trick too.

Careful - we have two identical DirecTV receivers that migrate between the house and the RV. In the house they're in separate rooms but in the RV they're in separate cabinets that are on either side of the front TV. We have to be very precise with the remotes because they are identical - each remote works both receivers. I'm trying to figure out how to isolate each receiver to eliminate that problem. Moving one receiver would involve a bunch of rewiring so I'd rather not do that.
