As anyone experienced this
On my rear tv on cable only, some channels are muted
It would seem it can only be a tv setting but I cannot for the life of me find the answer.
The tv is original Sony 2001
I would be grateful for some ideas on a cure

I am not sure it is a TV issue. I had the same problem at a campground 2 weeks ago. Front TV was fine, bedroom TV had no sound on some channels. I have never had the problem before with either TV running cable, OTA or Directv.

One thought... There are a few different "Cable" Standards.... Perhaps the Bedroom is set to the wrong one.

However... I'm kind of grasping at straws here.

On ANALOG tv, Sound and Video are actually on different frequencies (Each channel is six MHZ wide, sound is in one part, video another, True it's a sub carrier but that's how it shows up on an analyzer) I can think of things that might take out one but not the other. In fact I have BUILT things that were that high-Q (Selective) to notch out interference.

Thanks for the input guys
I have narrowed down the problem somewhat.
For example channel 8 had no sound. I gave the tv a "gentle" tap and voila we have sound. Turn it off turn it on no sound.
Sounds like a speaker issue?? However why dies the sound always work on some channels and not others?? Could it gave something to do with the previous post

Wa8yxm, I think you hVe the answer
It is generally the local channels broadcast over cable that I an having problems with
It is possible that these channels have lower signal strength
It is an anolog tv.
I will check for crook connections
Thanks again guys

No you said you give the set a gentle thump and you get sound.

This suggests the problem is internal to the set.. I've had a few like that.. And sometimes the easiest solution is a type 5 boot

How to boot a computer 5 ways

Type 1: Cold boot (When you turn it on in the am)
Type 2: Warm boot (Start = Turn off = Restart)
Type 3: Soft boot (Do you wish to restart now/later?)
Type 4: the computer I'm using has a hardware RESET button
Type 5: Steel toe boot (I hope I don't have to explain)

How about a bad cable end connection, and/or a tv upgrade without a cable upgrade. If running RG59 cable with more modern equipment, troubles can be had more frequently.
