Here is a photo with the tv out.

The black bar was a retainer for the crt tv.

I am thinking a piece of plywood secured to the black frame or back wall.

I need to get tyw rv in fairly flush for the slide to operate.

Thanks,

I am thinking that I may be able to mount to the back metal retaining frame.

Any other ideas?

If you do that I suggest as others did, to put a 1"x1' frame around the edges for additional support. Pre-drill the holes shallow and if it is going to be permanent, then add some wood glue around the back and edges of the frame so it is really solid. Measure very closely as to how far back the mount will put the TV when the tv is secured if the slide clearance is an issue. Also, the vertical height of a tv when mounting. A normal flat screen 40" is about 36" wide and about 21" high. Most are about 2 inches deep.

I put two horizontal 2x4's across the cabinet secured with 'L' brackets with 8 screws per bracket, and glue, then got a mount with a latch when closed that keeps the tv within a quarter inch of the cabinet.

Sounds like you have a good plan. I’d try to mount it so that it’s on hinges. Did that in in our bedroom. Sure is nice to hide the extra paper goods behind there.

You are going to want a sound bar as flat screen tv's have terrible little speakers.
I bought a Samsung that is about 36" wide and has a wireless sub that can be placed anywhere. Got it at Costco for less than $200.

No mounts needed.
Cut a plywood door the size of the opening, hinge at top, ad gas struts to make it easier to lift. Back of TV has 4 bolt holes, bolt it to plywood door. Use all that space for storage.
