Upgrade from Hopper 2 to Hopper 3 in progress
I completed the installation of my new DPH42 hybrid switch, complete with the necessary 'power inserter' that came with it. I followed this diagram closely:
DPH42_Winegard-Travler_One_Hopper3_Two_Joeys-4-18-2018.jpg
as published by Techwriter in the sticky at the top of this forum. There are two things on the diagram that I did not do, thinking it shouldn't matter.
-I left out the A/B switch since I do not have a Dish tripod in use at this time, only the Trav'ler on the roof.
-I did install the Hybrid solo hub 203952, but did not cable into any Joeys.
For whatever reason, when I power up the Trav'ler, it finds 119, then 110 and then 129. I have not seen that order before. It's alwasy been 110 first, then 119, then 129. The display on the Trav'ler box shows the satellites in the new order reading from left to right. Maybe this doesn't matter, but...
I have switched around the 3 cables between the Travler and the DPH42 and tried every combination. I nearly always get message 004 which says "Change the channel using the UP or DOWN button and return to the problem channel to see if the issue resolved....."
A couple of the cable arrangements got me a small handful of channels, but that's it.
I read in another thread here that someone had to leave the power inserter unplugged until the Trav'ler found the satellites, so that's what I've been doing. First step is to power up the Trav'ler. Once 3 satellites are found, I then plug in the power inserter and finally plug in the Hopper 3. It takes a while to come up but does get there, leading to the poor result above. Fwiw the Hopper is functioning and communicating with the tv just fine, since I can go to 'DVR' and can watch anything that is stored on the Hopper.
I went through some diagnostics and got a 74% signal strength on 119 which I understand is pretty good. However, the signal strength on 110 and 129 was at 0.
I am calling Winegard for advice in the next few minutes, but have always found it worthwhile to pose my questions here where the smart kids play.
My suspicion is that I need the Trav'ler to find 110 first just like it used to with the Hopper 2, but maybe this isn't relevant. Does anyone have any suggestions or insight?
Thanks for your time!

Assuming you wired everything ok, then make sure your Hopper 3 and DPH42 are both OFF before you power up your Travler.
Once your Travler is done acquiring the sats, THEN turn on the DPH42 and your Hopper 3.

Buy this and you do NOT even need the switch. I did and I now have a brand new switch (never used) in the box.
All you have to do is install the new LNB.

So my order of energizing components seems okay. I have talked to Winegard and I have a reference/case number. They couldn't get me any further without having me in front of the screen. I plan to get back to the bus tomorrow morning and they will walk me through the diagnostics. I will update the outcome.
Thanks everyone for your comments thus far.

Thanks for your suggestion KennyGolub. I looked into going your route but a couple of experts don't recommend it for rv installations, not sure why.
If my new DPH42 is condemned during the diagnostics, I might be in the market to buy your new switch.....

The problem was resolved today with help from Winegard. The tech who upgraded the house from my Hopper 2 to the new Hopper 3 did not change over to a DPH42 switch with power inserter. Instead, he changed the LNBF's over to the compatible LNB's. I have to run 'Test' on the DISH every time I move it in order to make it recognize the switch I want it to use, i.e. bus versus house. The procedure:
Go to MENU, then SETTINGS, then DIAGNOSTICS. Then go to Dish, and you will see the expected switch displayed. In my case the switch will always be incorrect due to moving from one installation to the other. The next step is to run TEST. This will correct the expectations of the Hopper 3 to 'see' the switch which it detects. Sorry for the layman's terms here.
Anyway, it's a happy ending. By using the DPH42 and not mimicking the house installation, I have added about 3 or 4 minutes to the procedure of moving the box. I know the LNB change on the Trav'ler is no longer recommended for rv's and the preferred solution is to change to the DPH42 and power inserter, but I do wonder why. It seems if I made the LNB change exactly as was done at the house it would be simpler.
Thanks to your help and suggestions folks!

You may want to gamble the $40 for a hybrid LNB and try it. Then you would be saving time and agg. each move and be able to get rid of the 42 switch.
Another thing is that you do not need the Hybrid Solo Hub unless you are going to use wired Joeys.
I am soon switching mine from DirecTv to Dish and will give the Hybrid a try as I have the same deal as you moving from house with hybrid setup to MH.
If all it takes is not connecting the Hopper until the Trav'ler finds the sats, that would be easier than remembering to do the switch test each time.

My understanding is that you only need to do the test switch one time when moving from the house to the RV and not every time you move locations. So this is not a big deal. It takes an extra few minutes and can be done before you head off. Don't forget to do the test again when you get back home. Chuck

Yes, I only need to run TEST to toggle between the two detected switches. It's not too bad. I did consider changing the satellite 'head bar' to be consistent between the house and the rv, but I put a great deal of stock in Techwriter's information and I would have to dig in and confirm that my Trav'ler is new enough to be compatible. What I have is working so I'm good with it.
Thanks for all comments and input! Great discussion for those planning to install a Trav'ler.

I think you mean "Check Switch". If so, it's called "Test Installation" on Hoppers, and you should perform one after EVERY move.

There are a number of folks switching from DirecTV to DISH and I've noticed a few of these converts have some ill-conceived notions of how to install DISH equipment, particularly the Hopper 3.
Since 2012, I've had all three Hopper versions in my RV:
For the Hopper 3, I believe I was the first RVer who installed a Hopper 3 with a DISH Pro Hybrid (DPH) LNBF. Though the DPH mod worked, it had some gotchas, particularly the Crazy Ivan which I (and others) have only experienced with the DPH mod, not a DPH42 switch.
I now recommend using a DPH42 switch because there seem to be less gotchas. However, even with this option you may have to use the Hopper Check Switch with Nuclear Option.
Finally, you should do a "Check Switch" (old DISH term) or "Test Installation" (Hopper term) EVERY time you move your RV.

I didn't realize the 'Test Installation' procedure is recommended every time I move the rv, but still it's not a big deal.
We are pulling out tomorrow for another major trip up to Canada by way of the Smokey Mountains so I will be well experienced in all this by Labor Day. I stumbled on a probable fix for an ongoing cable/air switch problem that I hope will test out well. I'm also going to bring my wireless Joey and see if I can get it working for the bedroom tv, assuming I get a down day which never seems to happen when we're on the road.... I tried it once before with my old Hopper and the signal strength just wasn't strong enough. We shall see.
