You can buy a Direct TV receiver off Ebay. You will not be able to get a Direct TV subscription in Canada

Be warned that DirecTV have a lot of issues unless you have a US registered coach, even then they don't like to let you access their satellites from Canada, but if you have a US billing address, credit card, and SSN, but your coach is Canadian registered they won't let you register as an RV user, and you will have to call them and do a change of address every time you relocate more than about 50 miles or you won't be able to get the national system HD channels that have a local affiliate - you will be able to get the other HD channels like Discovery etc.

No ABC, CBS, Fox, or NBC.

I am in the satellite research stage as also in Canada going south for the first time. Here is what I have learned to this point, Shaw would have been excellent but now have discontined service as of May 30/13. DISH appears the way to go as it is a pay as you go , Direct told me they wanted a 3 yr. committment and of course only good south of the border. I have a 2006 Kindome Trac King and I have been told it will need to be upgraded tho and all is good to go and once I come back north I can switch to Bell if I so wish. This is what I am contemplatiing now or could purchase a new system but-t-t-t I have top of line system now so will likely upgrade the sysytem and carry on. Frustrating but it will be worth in the end when we finally get what we want . GOOD LUCK out there!!!!

DirecTV may say its services are only available south of the 49th, but that isn't true. I'm currently sitting 60 mi south of Calgary and have excellent HD reception. The elevation of the 101 satellite at this location is just less than 31 degrees which isn't all that low.

I'm using a Winegard Trav'ler SK3005 with a HR22 DirecTV DVR. With the elevation at my present location I think almost any dish would have worked.

When we were in Jasper and Banff in previous weeks our reception was blocked both by trees and nearby mountains. At those locations the elevation for 101 is ~27 degrees which gets a bit dicey. I noticed that the Shaw satellite is about 4 degrees higher in the sky at Banff than is the DirecTV 101 so one of my CG neighbors was able to get reception but I couldn't, however, I didn't bother to break out my tripod dish to determine if the problem was trees or mountains--in Jasper and Banff the setting was too beautiful to care about TV.

Hi Rollie

I have a winegaurd system on the dish and as for the Kingdome I do not know to much about it. I also looked in to Shaw but the cost of having to change the dish out did not seem worth it. THX for your help
