I just recently found out about this-

If you can produce a DD 214 you might be eligible for a 15% discount.

I went into a Verizon store recently with my retired ID card in hand, and they really didn't want to see that- They wanted that "other piece of paper". I ran back to the RV and dug out my DD 214, took it back to the store, they scaned it, and now my monthly statement reads--

"As an employee of GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE PRICING, your monthly access discount is 15%."

Hooray---- It's like getting a pay raise!

Cheers,

They also offer employee discounts for several corporations; a Google search will reveal the companies that are included. I called to inquire about the discount since the company I work for gets a 19% discount. Unfortunately, we have data service via Verizon and they said the discount is for cell phone service only. :(

Max,
I bet when you said , "I Do" some 20, er 30, er 40 years ago !!!!, you never realized how much your cell phone company would love you.

Bill-

I guess they love me 15% worth-

How's the DP working out for you? I hope all is well with it, and your family.

I read something recently that said Verizon would have 4G available in their entire network by the end of 2013. That would be neat!
I was told if I move up to 4G, I will lose my "unlimited" plan and then have to buy a new "limited" plan.
I came "Grandfathered" in from Alltel with "unlimited" when the marriage happened (Alltel & Verizon).

Merry Christmas to you and all our forum friends-

Max & Cindy

I'm a new Verizon customer and got my discount with no problems. Just faxed them my 214 and their on-line form. It all helps. dick

My local Verizon store gave me the discount a few years ago just by showing my retired ID card.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll check on Monday.
Lowes and Home Depot also give a 10% discount although for the past three months our Lowes makes you wait until a supervisor is summoned to your checkout stand, which can take up to five minutes so far. I pretty much quit going there and now go to the Home Depot down the street where they don't delay you.

Thanks for the tip. I logged on and found out my company discount is 17% with 25% off accessories.

I exerubantly found out about the VZ discount almost a month ago. I was very excited to say the least about receiving the discount.

All along I thought that my DD-214 wasn't hardly worth the paper that it was printed on so I relegated it to a file storage box and forgot about it for some 41 years!

As of 5 years ago we bought our home and since then have spent a lot of money with Lowes & Home Depot without ever knowing. Now having been retired since 2005, the savings that we receive in the form of discounts are indeed blessings and every little bit helps.

I brought my DD214 and my VA ID card to the VZ store and the guy there took my VA card and placed it in a scanner and copied the card. He told me he didn't need the 214. Go figure - they're all different it seems so bring both! VZ has since sent me texts on my phone and PMs in "My Verizon" that my discount has been applied.

I tried my VA card at Lowes .... works like a charm.

AT&T offers the same discount on their cellular plans. Like Verizon, the data plan is not discounted, but having a family plan where I still pay for my two youngest children's cell phone bill, it dropped my outgo for cellular service nearly $45 a month. I was a happy camper when I found out I qualified.

After I bought my 5Spot, I gave Verizon my DD-214 and received 15percent ($7.50/month). About 2 months later got a letter saying I should not have gotten it on a data only, so it would soon disappear. A month later I got another letter, giving it back, until the end of my 2 year contract, it is listed on the bill as Mobile Broadband discount.

Wife just upgraded to a RAZR, so moved her account to mine and receive 15% on her voice plan ($6.00/month).

We'll see what happens when my 5Spot contract is up.

PS: So far I have been able to tether laptop to the RAZR, allowing my wife to use some of her 4GB's playing Pioneerville, without the HotSpot feature activated. We'll see if Verizon stops that.
