Multiple sources are reporting that rumored "tiered pricing" for Verizon's data service will start on Oct. 28
Among the options rumored to become available is one that provides 10GB of data for $80/mo
I think its a good thing that verizon realizes some folks could really use more than 5GB of data in a month.
Other rumored pricing can be seen at my blogpost

Not many things are cheaper in Europe than in the US, but for some strange reason you can get your mobile Internet connection for a lot less than what is offered by people like Verizon.
In Denmark (where things are more expensive than most other European countries) we pay $35 per month for an unlimited amount of data. This is a 2MB connection and it is plenty good for picking up your e-mail and general "Googling".
I have seen that Sir Richard Branson's company Virgin is entering the "Internet marked". That could be interesting for mobile US consumers.

You mentioned 3G. What about 4G? I've heard 4G will also be a tiered system. Unlike other carriers like Sprint. Their offering unlimited 4G for the same $59 per month. It's available right now. Granted they don't have quite as large an area as Verizon. But Verizon's coverage, all though pretty good, isn't as good as they claim.

there have been no official announcements about 4G rate plans other than to say they are looking at all options. its my guess that these new 3G tiered rates are a dry run to see how consumers respond.

Yes, but all of Sprint's 4G devices are also 3G capable and all have 3G roaming on Verison's network.
Unlimited data is nice, especially when its FAST.

Verizon is pitching 4G coming to my home area. Heck, I would be thrilled to get 2G performance. Even 1G on some days. $60/mo is a lot to pay for generally poor performance, especially when I am 3 blocks from the cell tower. I rarely exceed half of my 5Gb allotment in any month. (At less than dial-up speed sometimes, I can't use the computer that much!) I would switch providers if they had coverage where I stay in the winter and I thought they were really better.
