Hi Folks, I bought an older RV in WI last fall and escaped to AZ, NV & CA for the winter. I had quite a bit of work to do on it, and I am still not done, but there was no way I was going to spend the summer in the desert so I took a volunteer host position at a SD State Campground for the summer.
As much as I don't like staying in one place for 3 months, having full hookups and not having to pay for fuel has helped me save a bunch of money, and I have been able to do things that would be difficult to do when boondocking. Right now it's pretty hot everywhere and having my AC going nearly 24 x 7 is really nice.
One other thing that has saved me a bunch of money is solar panels. I have 2 of them mounted flat on the roof, with a controller and an inexpensive 1400 watt inverter. (Walmart) The only time I really need my generator is to make toast or coffee. I'll eventually get one or 2 more solar panels, more batteries and a more powerful inverter, but with the price if gas where it is, solar equipment pays for itself pretty fast.

I am new to this board and this is my first post. I am looking at installing solar panels on my travel trailer. I camp alot with Boy Scouts and electric hookup isalmost unheard of in the places we camp. I have used portable 12 volt systems to run chargers for cell phones and to run a fan (If you camp in Florida during the summer you understand the need). I started to push the envelope and use the 12 volt system for lighting within my tent. Now that I will have to use a travel trailer, I need to tweek the 12 volt camping system to the next level. I am considering using a set up from Harbor Freight to maintain my system. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=90599
This is a 45 watt setup. What is the output from your panels?
