Does anyone have a brand name with good/bad comments on a weather radio that gives a "beep" when bad weather is "only" in your area?

I have a weather radio, but don't want to listen all the time, and when they give weather for this or that city, sometimes it's 100 miles or more from me.

I think there are radios that give a warning for specific areas.

thanks Bruce

There are many on the market that has a 'standby alert' to come on just for the purpose you are wanting ...too many brands to name here. I suggest that you go to your local Radio Shack for a start, talk to an experienced sales clerk and I'm sure they can give you the information you are looking for. Again, try to get someone that knows what they are talking about. Also, read the wording on the box/package ...a good one will state all its features in stand out bold letters.

I have a weather radio by Oregon Scientific that uses the SAME codes published by NOAA so that you receive weather data for only a specific region. Here's a portable weather radio that might suite your needs.

Last post was in January,I have the Cobra 29with weather channels built in.I fulltime and even if the cb is turned off,I still get the alerts. It has a tone alert that will wake up the dead.Just turn on the unit and hear the alert. Its range is +/- 25 to 35 miles. Hope you get this, and it helps.
