Website that lists places to find free WiFi?
Hey does anyone know if there's a website out there currently that lists the locations of free wifi spots across the country on a city-level?
I'm wondering if I'll be able to find any on my upcoming Eastern Oregon Ramblin' Journey in just a little over a week.

Thanks That one's got a fair amount, wonder if there's something like Gasbuddy for Wifi..... I'm trying to find out where I can find internet access in eastern Oregon, and alot of the spots on Free Wifi seem to be mostly big metro areas

Yes, and it logically follows, that is where they are going to be. You won't find any, or darn few, where there are the same number of people. Your best bet will probably be the campgrounds you stay at, or the odd cafe, restaurant, or hotel parking lot in one of the towns.

We just traveled cross country from Southwestern NC to Central NM. We parked in Sam's Club & Wal-Mart parking lots on the way out (stopped twice in campgrounds). We found that (with a wi-fi signal booster) there are many unsecured wi-fi signals available. Some were from very nearby hotel/motels and restaurants. Some were from truckstops. Some we couldn't figure out where they came from. The town we are currently in has city-wide free wi-fi as well as the campground we are staying in. Stacey would just turn on her netbook & the choices would pop-up. Always seemed to be at least one that was unsecured.

Do you have the info on this wifi signal booster? I've not had a whole lot of luck with finding one. How much do they normally cost?

The sticky has a link that was a "search" for all of the WiFi info in this forum related to adapters. Unfortunately the "search" results were not permanent. Therefore the sticky has no use and will be deleted.

Public libraries usually have a wifi and most times they leave it on even after the library is closed. A drive by or walk up to the front will usually tell. Like all unsecured networks, let the user beware. No telling who's listening.

I am well satisfied with the performance of my http://engeniustech.com/
USB adapter external wifi antenna. It's not expensive(~$70), seems to double the signal in most fringe areas, and is small enough to fit easily into a laptop briefcase pocket.
