I use the aux jack on the front of the radio for this when I need to add a device and put the radio power selector to house instead of engine. I upgraded for less than $100 to a JVC indash radio with HD Audio and it has all the required inputs on the front and back of the radio giving me multiple options for the connection.

That said I have a Winnebago and they already wire the TV to the quad speakers that the radio uses and provide a selector switch to take care of this so I only use the AUX for MP3, SmartPhone and Tablets.

They are made for computers so they are designed for the headphone style jacks. I used them on my desktop for years but we are fulltiming now and I hated our TV speakers they are terrible but these sound great.

Any speaker set that is made for computer should work just plug and play... easy / cheap (depending what you want to buy).

The one gotcha is they have to be powered which 99% of them out there are. There are some OEM speakers that were sold with some computers that are unpowered and used a pathetic powered headphone jack amp to power them. So as long as it has a battery/plug/usb connector* you'll be fine

* USB jack or USB power adapter needed for USB powered speakers

If you are using headphones in the headphone jack and get no volume, well that would be a defective TV headphone jack.
