I know the receiver has both 720 and 1080 settings, I just don't know what the HD transmitted signal is. If it's 1080--- is it 1080i or 1080p. Bill, do you know?
Thanks,

Over the air signals could be any of those including 480. 480 is SD digital and 720 and up are HD. If your TV is capable of 1080 it will resolve that signal at that resolution. If it is only capable of 720, it will still receive the 1080 but resolve it as 720.
All of the HD TV's today will receive whatever signal is broadcast and the produce the best picture the TV/signal combination is capable of.

I am not sure if DirecTV does 1080p, but I suspect they do. Dish Network does 1080p.
1080i vs 1080p to me is a toss up in visual quality. The i vs p is just the way to describe the scanning technique used...i = interlaced, p = progressive...all technical jargon. All though the tech guys will say that 1080p is better. My tired old eyes cannot tell the difference.
But as Bill stated, the HD Tv set will produce the best picture it can based on it's capability. I do not believe a 1080i TV set will give you 1080p. Go to Best Buy and ask for a demo.

Thanks for the replies--
I guess I could have answered my own question if I had gone to the motor home and turned the new 32" Sony on. Everytime you change channels on the satelite dish, or over the air with the bat wing, The signal is displayed that you are receiving. I get the 1020i or the 720, or the 480 on each channel---
Thanks again,
