I have been following discussion threads here on both units. I am about to order the Garmin. Part of my reasoning is that Garmin have been in the GPS business for years including very sophisticated "glass cockpits" for aircraft. Rand McNally have years of map and atlas experience but are just starting out in the GPS business.
Excellent point. After doing a bit of research, I'm coming to the conclusion that the Rand McNally units may not be ready for prime time. An interesting post elsewhere (by a former pilot), pointed out the benefits of do the trip planning yourself, rather than relying so heavily on technology. Hmmm. Could he be onto something??? Maybe *that's* the niche for Rand McNally...
