Where to get the Trav’ler installed?

We have the Roadtrip T4 on our roof now but we are looking into replacing it with the Trav’ler. We are looking for a place to install the dish and the Hopper (maybe Hopper 3) that actually know about the system and can do it right and show me how to use it. I will be in the Columbia SC area until around the middle of Oct then around the Houston TX area for the winter. Has anyone found a place that they are happy with that did a good job?

Its not a difficult job to install the Trav'ler...even I can do it and have 3 times. I'm 77 and not very handy. There are You Tubes on how (of course there are ). Hardest part is getting it on the roof but if you have a young son-in-law, etc, they can do it. Have a tube of Dicor and do buy the big plate that Winegard sells for it. The plate makes a much better installation IMHO.

Two places that I know of to get Travler installed in Houston: Sats2go; PPL.

Sats2go quoted about $1800 (Dish) installed. They recommended they do install then have Dish install the Hopper3/Joey. They do give a small discount if you take your rig to them vs them coming to you.

I did not get quote from PPL. I have not had either company do work so cannot comment on quality of work or support

PPL in Houston installed mine along with several other upgrades we added when we bought our rig there. I find them very good to work with and well above average for what I've encountered with shops over the years. They will disappoint from time to time but overall they are the best service shop that I've found. The Service Manager is a lady named Joy. She's the best in the business and really knows her stuff.
Be sure to get it mounted up front as close to the nose as reasonable. Our previous rig had the dish mounted near the back. The front is far better at not being blocked by trees.

From one AF guy to another if you’re going to go to a different antenna don’t get the Travler. Get the RFMogul, it’s a better system and you can change components, if ever necessary, without sending the whole unit back to the factory.

X 2 The R F Mogul Eagle is a far better unit than the Trav'ler. From someone that has had both.

Thanks for the replies. Since we will winter near Houston I will probably get it installed there. I will have to check out the R F Mogul Eagle, I’m guessing it works with Hopper 3.

I would never try to install this myself, when it comes to tech/electrical work I know enough about it to not and try and do it.

Once I get the new dish then I have to sell my hardly used Roadtrip T4. I can always ask if they take it as trade-in.

My present MH came with the traveler equipped for DirecTV. We have a DISH account. Sats2Go came to my storage area and changed out the components needed to receive DISH satellite. No need to send it off to the Mfg.

Sats2Go has been in business for a very long time and the work done for me was excellent. We have had this system since 2017 and I have not had any problems.

If you do have a problem with the traveler the whole thing has to be sent to factory, all the electronics are in the antenna. With the Mogul all the electronics are in the inside control and very easy to fix, replace, or change between direct and dish or vise versa.

I may be leaning to the RF Module Eagle. I like that you don’t have to send the whole thing in to get repairs done. I have been looking at some past threads and looks like maybe the Module might be better made.

How does the RF Mogul price compare to the Traveler?

I think the RF Mogul is $200-300 more but not sure. Every time I try to get on their web site I get a warning saying it may be a copycat site trying to steal my info.
