Which coax is which?

I bought my "new" a few months ago and I am now trying to get the TV's set-up correctly. I have taken out the main TV and getting ready to put in a new flat screen. I have a cable and sat hook-ups near my electrical cord. How can I tell what coax is which that runs from that point to the coax cables in my RV near the front?

I also have a King Dome satellite. I am thinking that if I want to use DirecTV, I have that at home, I should be able to hook-up my receiver to one of the coax cables right there where the receiver would go. Again, how do you I know which wire goes where?

Thanks for any help. This has been frustrating that they were not labeled.

There are basically 3 ways, and one may not work.....

If one cable is SLIGHTLY bigger around (It may be marked RG_6) That is a satellite cable, For use with the LNB in on the sat receiver, IF you have a rooftop sat antenna (Dome or dish) you may have one or two of these, Many rigs do not have them.

Now, the two ways are to tone out the cables or resistance measure them. Here is how to do it.

If you have a friend who has the equipment tone method is easiest, You hook a transmitter to one end of the cable (Say the park cable in jack) using a jumper if needed and then you go to the assorted unlabeled ends and plug the receiver on each one.. One of them is kind of loud, that's the park cable in line, Label it

Do the same thing with the Sat In line (if there is a seperate sat in line)

And so on down the list... The one remaining cable should be "over the air" from your switch box (Assuming you have the wall plate, if you got the box of many buttons you got some more work to do).

To resistance measure them three methods. One carries a slight risk.

1: Buy a termination resistor at radio shack, this is a 72-75 Ohm resistor built into the connector like on a coax cable. Screw it onto the park cable inlet, and measure the resistance nut to center wire (Well sleeve to center wire) on each cable till you see 70-something ohms. Continue same as with tone.

Method 2 is to simply short the cable and look for the short,, NOTE this may "Find" the over the air antenna cable by accident so look for it first.

Next is a battery-light bulb method, Instead of a short, use a battery and look for the light. This is risky, (Short).

If you happen to be near the SC/GA border on i-85,, Drop me a line, I can help you.

Thank you so much. I did the battery light bulb method. Now I found a new problem. I am not getting power to my satellite switch that searches for signal. I have checked almost every fuse in the panel. It appears that it was pre-wired for the satellite. Somebody told me that there is a switch to turn on the 12 volt power to the switch.

What model motor home do you have? I don't think there should be any power involved with the satellite if you are referring to the video source selection switch. The switch may need power to power the bat wing amplifier though.

Yes, you will have to have +12Volts DC power to the Sat. switch that, once turned on, provides this voltage to the motor-drive control board plus other circuitry inside the King Dome. Otherwise, the Antenna won't move to lock on. I have the Winegard Moving View Satillite, but they are similiar. My Sat. Power switch is lighted, so I can see it when I turn the power on. Wish I could help, but not sure where this voltage comes from either. There should be both a House (usually inside)and Chassis (usually outside) +12V Distribution fuse area.

I am talking about power to the sat switch so the dish will search. I think I am getting power to the switch now. It was a 5 amp fuse, the battery boost/tv boost on my 2004 Knight. However, the switch is still not working properly. Does the receiver need to be powered on for the switch to light up?
