Does any one know what is the best in motion satellite to get? I had a kvh in the past and that one worked good, but any little things like signs across the highway or overpasses It would lose signal for about 20 seconds, mind you that traveling at 60 70 mph so going under something would be a fraction of a second, but maybe Its like that with all of them, any ideas please so I can make the right choice, Thanks, Joe.

I can tell you my brother has "Trac Vision" and he has had nothing but problems with it. He has to have it repaired after every trip and it conks out again on the next trip. He is going back to a remote dish on a tripod.

Our Tracvision works very well but the problem you id'd wuth signal loss while in motion is something that will occur with every in-motion system.

The other thing to consider is that HD is extremely limited -- if available at all -- depending upon the provdier (DISH/DTV) and which satellites you can lock onto.

Lastly, is that any dome will not have the signal quality -- especially with weather -- of a standard dish.

Ours came with the TracVision. If it ever dies or we decide we have to have HD then I would get a standard (albeit auto pointing) 3 LNB dish as we travel during the day (99% of the time) and there is very little that we want/need to record during those hours.

I am fond of the one I have though I'm told it does not enjoy the best reputation for Television systems (Motosat) they do make good Internet systems though.

However that's not the point of this post.

Recently I acquired a few DirecTV receivers from back in the days when they sold them (They now lease them) and hooked one of 'em up to the antenna... And it worked not at all, Antenna would NOT lock on the bird. Well.. I've been messing with it for a while and no joy.. Finally inspriation struck and I hooked up a voltmeter in place of the antenna.. NO POWER TO THE LNB FROM THE RECEIVER.. (I have indeed seen that before)

Removed that receiver and hooked up another

Antenna locked on promptly and works perfectly

You will likely get many answers to this and they will all likely be different.
I would consider the full-size 15" Trac-Star to be the best but I am not sure they make it any longer. Next would be the 15" Trac-King (it uses the Trac-Star technology) and this would be followed by the Winegard RoadTrip. Their new Mini-Max claims to get even better signals and if the tracking works as well it should be a real winner but I have not tested one or talked to anyone who has.

We have a Winegard in motion satellite dish. Really like to so far. We listen to XM satellite radio going down the road. I also enjoy watching TV when I get board in the passenger seat. It will snag when we go under a bridge but its right back on track after we clear it. Thick trees will kill it too but I am NOT complaining.

We have a Trac King that has worked perfectly until one of the tracking motors failed. It is currently being repaired.
