Does anyone use the Verizon mywifi 2200? I have a DSL in my home and a wireless 'card' for on the road. I would like to just have one usable source for the house and fifth. This would include any visitors to my house with computers or cells etc. Don't know where to post this. kkd

By "wireless card", do you mean an air card modem for either USB or PC card slot? If so, you should keep your card and service and get a Cradlepoint router access point to use with it. That combo will work just as well as the MiFi for less money.

We have been out for 5 weeks now using the Verizon MIFI 2200. At home we use DSL and it is faster but the MIFI speed is still acceptable. So far we have only stayed in one place (Ridgeview RV in Bullhead City AZ ) where the MIFI would not work. I am considering dropping the DSL at home but have not made a decision yet since we have our phone, DSL, Cell Phone and Satellite TV all bundled together and get a significant discount.

Sorry for the delay in reply. Life just gets busier for a grandma whose daughter is a physician. Alltel, now Verizon, calls it a card, but it is a USB stick that plugs into the computer. I've had good success locally (130 mile radius) but wondered if I should discontinue my DSL and use this exclusively. It would save me about $500 each year. On the other hand, I want to know what others have for travel. I do know that wifi is an 'iffy' in campgrounds. kkd

WE bought a mifi prior to our most recent three month vacation road trip. Previously we had high speed DSL at home which was required for my job. During our road trip we had our DSL account put on suspense which meant $5.00/mth. The mifi worked great at all times.
Now that we are back home we still have not "un-suspended" our DSL account. The mifi is workig great,(not at break neck speeds but manageable) so I suspect we will be turning our DSL modem back in. $59.99 a month is not justifiable for the minor loss of speeed.

That is why they no longer have my business.

I use a Mifi while on the road. DSL in my new home park. I find the DSL much faster than MIFI Wifi in most reception conditions, and, of course, no limit. Maybe that will change with my new Wilson cell amplifier, tho Bill mentioned that Wifi thruput degrades when using this amp.
That said, I wouldn't pay for both services either if I had a choice. I'm not in that much of a hurry, and I am cheap.

KKD,
The air card should work well at home and on the road IF (big if) you have a good level of service available to you at your home location. The only way to know is to get the card and try it at home. You will have a 30 day trial and you will know pretty quickly if it will work for you. It may or may not be as fast as DSL but it might be close enough to cover the $500/year savings. If you are away more than you are home (or close) then it's a lot easier to make the leap.
As to the MiFi, I would recommend a standard air card and a Cradlepoint router. While on the road it might not make too much difference, when everyone comes over to the house the MiFi can only connect to a maximum of 5 devices and this might limit your connectivity with your computer(s), printer and the visitors devices.

I think I'm going to give up the DSL come August when my subscription runs out. Most of the relatives all have an air card and unlimited usage. I don't feel like providing free service for everyone else. Now if I can just get on the road to use it.
