Here is a router designed to use conventional modems, 3/4g cellular modems or as a WiFi encrypted repeater for connection to public WiFi networks.

I got a PepWave Surf from the 3G Store earlier this year and it works very well with weak Wi-Fi signals that are common in the campgrounds. It picks up the weak signal, amplifies it and retransmits on a different freq creating your own personal router in the RV. There is also a hi-gain directional external antenna available at the 3G Store that will work even better at the weak signals.

WiFi Ranger router

Hi John,

Have you tried the WiFiRanger yet? It seems to be just what I'm looking for. Their info suggests compatibility with 130 USB Modems.

I'm considering buying a Droid Incredible by HTC from Verizon that I'd USB tether to the WiFiRanger. The link you provided has an online chat feature. I 'chatted' with Brian a few minutes ago. He indicated that they have not yet tested the WiFiRanger with the Droids. He suggested that they would offer me a discount to buy the WiFiRanger and allow them to configure it to be compatible with the Droid. Seems like a good deal. When I make the Droid purchase, I'm inclined to try the WiFiRanger.

Take care,
Stu

Would that be a Sprint HTC EVO 4G? I presume that you're using it as a Mobile WiFi hotspot?

I'm currently a Verizon customer and am favoring Verizon products.

Also, I'm looking to set up a WiFi network so that I can use a network hard drive, laptop and printer; not just internet access.

Take care,
Stu

Stu,
You should be looking at the Cradlepoint MBR1000. It does it all. See the following website: Cradlepoint MBR1000 Mobile Broadband Router Review : EVDOinfo.com

Actually the MBR1000 doesn't do it all. What the WiFi Ranger does that the others don't is to use a WiFi hotspot or AP as the WAN input. It can also use a 3G/4G modem or cell phone, or conventional ethernet from a DSL or cable modem as the WAN input. It allows you to always have your own LAN to share printers and other devices securely, even when connected to an RV park's WiFi. This is important so that you don't have to reconfigure your network at every stop.

Exactly, John. The ability to use a variety of inputs (RV Park's WiFi, tethered cell phone, LAN, etc.) seems superior to the Cradlepoint routers. I have looked at the Cradlepoint info. They, currently, don't indicate that they support tethering to the Verizon Droid phones.

Although the WiFiRanger doesn't indicate current compatibility with the Verizon Droid phones, their on-line chat person (Brian) indicated a willingness to work with me to get a Droid phone connected.

I suspect that, since it's a new product, there will be a commitment to customer satisfaction.

Take care,
Stu
