I just purchased a Wilson cell phone booster, and I'm curious how everyone has installed theirs. The directions say the exterior antenna needs to be 40 feet from the interior antenna. My RV is only 35' long!

How did you guys install and run your wires?

Thanks for the help!

CoryP.

If you install the outside antenna on the back of the MH and the inside antenna in the front you should be fine as the metal and other items in the MH will help. Also, you can install it closer together but you will need to lower the output power to the outside antenna. Easiest way to install the cable is down the ladder, along a chassis rail and the up into the cockpit.

I mounted my external antenna on the center of the roof behind the rear A/C. I mounted the interior antenna facing forward, away from the exterior antenna, as per instructions. The separation is about 15 feet and I am getting no oscillations (feedback) as indicated by the lights on the amplifier.

mine is a wired booster and thus have only one antena to worry about. I have one of those paint extension poles that takes it to 14 feet when extended. Put it up beside the driver side slide and run the antenna inside before the slide is fully open. Works great.

Like the others have mentioned, don't worry too much about the distance being exactly 40 ft. Just get them as far as possible and depending on your indoor antenna, if it's the wall mount type point it away from the external antenna. If it's the ceiling type where it is omni-directional just try moving it as far as possible.

Keep in mind too much coax between the amp and the antenna/s can be worse. At the hihgher frequencies most of the cell phones operate the loss is really high on the small 1/4-inch diameter coax. You can easily defeat the purpose of the amplifier.

I bought mine on line. The more bands it jams the better.

May not be too critical. Mine has worked fine, outstanding as a matter of fact, for the past 5 years. My OEM cell phone antenna is directly overhead, less than 6 feet from the cell phone pickup/attachment. I thinking your newer setup must be different to require such a separation.

My outside antenna is on the very back of the coach (in fact it's behind the coach about 3 inches) and the indoor antenna in the cabinet under the kitchen sink/counter up front. Prehaps 28 feet.. PLUS the angular upset (Around 8 feet higher) and the metal foil on the real back of the motor home (insulation) and you have an electrical separation of ... A whole bunch. (That insulation foil adds a lot to the distance)
