Anyone purchase the Wilson Sleek Cell Phone Signal Boost? It's available at the 3G store.
http://3gstore.com/index.phpmain_pag...oducts_id=1981
I'm considering it for the RV & Car. Would like to hear from anyone that has used this device.

When using it in the motorhome since it uses a magnetic mount antenna what can you attach the antenna to? If you have a fiberglass motorhome I think that will be a problem since it probably uses the metal surface of the magnetic mount as a ground plane.

We bought it as a stop gap to use in the RV, and long range to have in the toad. (Stop gap, as we just ran out of time setting up our new/old RV before our first big trip.)
I found that in areas we had low coverage on cell, and next to no 3G on the DROID PDA Net tethered to the laptop, that the Sleek added enough signal strength to support both. (I measured before and after strength, but just don't recall now.).
I sure did nothing fancy on the hook up, just stuck the antenna in the front windshield, to the back of the metal casing on the fans (Either left or right, if it made a difference. The fans are hanging off the upper cabinents.)
It was a short term solution, that helped us with Verizon coverage around the Hope Idaho area, as one example.
I paid bottom dollar, via Amazon.
Good luck,
Smitty

3G also has a window suction cup mount antenna.
I use that with the Wilson SOHO booster.

We purchased the Sleek and purchased an adapter that allows us to connect it to our roof mount antenna on the RV. We will keep the short antenna for use with our toad vehicle. I will post additional comments after we get to use the device. The 3G store staff said we could also use the Sleek to help boast our Sierra Wireless Air Card from Sprint. Happy Holidays!

I am looking for info on these types of devices, another brand; for some pictures on a rv install, using stainless steel as an antenna reflector go to the 'two reasons you need a Smooth Talker'-I think, section of
betsy-tom (betsy-tom)'s Photos | SmugMug
This maufacturer has an incredible amount of info on antennas, well worth the read if you are considering these devices;
http://www.smoothtalker.com/
Shown elsewhere on the smugmug site are pictures of how he got the cable into the coach through the ac, and how he has the amp permanently mounted and powered for ease of use, pretty slick really.

Had a chance to check out the Wilson Sleek yesterday. We drove to an area of Yuma where I had only 1 bar on my Verizon phone and my wife had zero bars on her Sprint phone. Hooked up the sleek to 12V on the car and attached the antenna to the cradle. Affixed the antenna on the rear roof of my Honda Odyssey, on my phone it increased my coverage to 5 bars. On my wife's phone it took zero bars and increased it to 3 bars. We both made phone calls which worked quite well. No dropped calls. I was unaware that it would provide coverage where you did not have any bars. It certainly was worth the money. I now need to look into a Bluetooth headset for my phone.

I have been using a wilson cell phone signal booster for about 9 months. I was in an area for 7 months that did not have wifi and could not get my cell phone to work well and sometimes not at all. I researched many boosters and found the Wilson to be the most impressive. They have many models as well as different antennas. They do not sell direct but their tech support will happily talk with you and suggest which model is best for your situation. I have the 801212 and it worked very very well. It not only allowed my cell phone to work so i can make calls but it gave me a strong enough signal so that i could tether my phone to my laptop and go online with the laptop. I highly recommend the product...good luck, Allen aka Gadget

i just bought a sleek amp and have installed it on the house for now. i made a steel plate 4" in diameter like what they said and put the magnetic antenna on it. i am now waiting for a 110 power supply to run it. i did use the cig lighter power for a few just to test it and it raised the signal up to full bars . i hope to carry it to the mh for long trips, andi will glue a plate on the front cap of the mh for another antenna for it.

So the bottom line is that these products can be a lifesaver.
