The VueQube gets it power from the sat receiver and does not require a separate 12 VDC power wire.

I bought a VuQube 10 off one of the local classifieds for $250. It works with a remote control and will work with Dish and Direct and Express. Most of the time people have trouble with SatTv is because they don't know what they are doing and blame it on the equipment. I can take a Satelite dish and lay it in my yard and pick up signals. As far as HD it's all digital and as far as picture quality the difference is very small. Don't forget when you are camping you are suppose to rough it a little.

Perhaps it's in the eye of the beholder, but I can tell a huge difference between HD and SD programming! It's especially noticable if you have a channel broadcasting both SD and HD...switch between the two and you'll be able to see the difference.

Laying satellite dishes flat has been around for a long time. Here is a little stand made out of PVC that one can use. Just remember that the elevation setting is different.

It might be or it might be that the SD programing wasn't set up right. I'm not saying there isn't a difference it's just that it's so small that to me it's not worth the extra BS. If you live in the snow belt you'll hear that everyone has trouble with heavy snow because of the shape and angle of the dish doesn't let the snow slide off so you have to go out and clean the dish off to get reception after a heavy snow. The neighbor just switched to HD and they complain all the time and say they see no difference in picture quality. I have SD and never had to clean mine yet.

I knew it! Another lie perpetrated by our capitalistic society to sell newer HD TV's. They did such a good job of convincing me the picture would be better that I believed them...and I still think HD picture quality is head and shoulders above SD.

Now that we've hijacked the thread, back to the regularly scheduled program now in progress.

Not wishing to jump on the hijack bandwagon but there definitely is a big difference between SD & HD! Less of a difference if you upscale SD to HD but even then there is still noticeable difference .

I don't know how our SD programming could be set up any differently...it comes directly from Dish Network, so it is what it is (i.e., *WE* can't do anything to change it).

I use the Carryout.
The 12VDC is used for dish training ONLY. I think that the Vu Cube does the same thing thru the master 5? conductor cable and remote control. After the Carryout is locked on the Sat the 12VDC can be disconnected, it isn’t required again unless the carryout is moved. The LNB for both is powered from the sat receiver by the interconnecting coax cable.
I mostly boondock on BLM land in AZ and in the mountains of ID, WY and MT. There is a small milli amp 12 VDC drain after locking on the sat, the Carryout is used because I can disconnect the 12VDC separately from the signal coax saving Batt power. To do this I bought one of those snap covered plates (forgot their name) that mounts on the outside of the RV for cable TV, telephone etc inputs. I bought the one that has 2 cable input connectors. Then I removed one of the coax connectors, enlarged the hole to accept a 12V cigarette lighter receptacle. I ran a short piece of coax to the TV and a short piece of wire to a fused 12VDC supply. I also made small Aluminum clips so that I can wind up the 2- 50ft cables around the carryout for storage. The power cable comes from the factory with a 12VDCV plug end.
In setting up camp I connect the carryout first, then set up the rest of the RV. After a few minutes I turn on the TV to verify the carryout is locked on the sat and I have a good signal then go outside and disconnect the 12VDC.
BTW- I have Direct TV

I guess that I should add that when researching for my ultimate purchase of the Carryout I went to Direct TV and talked to them about Direct TV, Dish network, SD, HD, single, double and triple LNBs etc. What I mean is, I didn’t go to the Direct TV Kiosk in the mall and talk to a salesman or call the 800#, I went to the Direct TV warehouse/shop and talked directly with the manager and the installers, that way I thought that I would get the most accurate and knowledgeable information.
Direct TV (probably Dish also) won’t have anything to do with RV installation etc but, they were a wealth of information.

There are different settings in the TV itself to switch from SD to HD. You need to match the resolution of the source box to the resolution of your TV. Also to get the best picture you should to use a HDMI cable to connect source to the TV.
