Winegard for Activation or Just Call Dish Network?

We just purchased a Winegard Dish Playmaker and a Dish Wally. We want to activate Pay-As-You-Go Dish packaging. Is it better to call Winegard or Dish directly for this? Better customer service from one over the other, or about the same?

We are full-timer RVers so have no existing Dish account.

Thanks!

I could be wrong on this but Winegard I think you will have call Dish direct. I've been with Dish for 17 years and although not perfect they will take care of you.

The reason I asked is that Winegard shows all the Dish packages on their site. I believe they are a Dish reseller:

Call Winegard. They will activate your subscription to Dish. Dish does not understand RV's.

What he said!

Even if you call Dish you are likely to call Winegard. We called Dish first and after an hour or so had to call Winegard anyhow. (Well dealer called them to get things working.)

Yes, you can use Winegard to do the initial setup and activation. Just call the number listed on their website.

Thanks folks! Sounds like Winegard is the way to go. That was my initial impulse, but the literature that came with the receiver just listed a 1-800 number that I am sure is Dish.

When we get to that point in the setup, we'll call Winegard!

It's OK to call the 800# listed on the Dish receiver packaging you bought. They are NOT Dish, they are Pace International, an authorized Dish reseller. This is the company Winegard will send you to (transfer your call) if you call Winegard to activate your receiver. They understand RV Satellite.

For 4 years now I've been calling Dish to activate/deactivate our 211 receiver as needed with no issues at all. The key is to let them know up front that the receiver is in and RV and what the receiver's ser# and Card # is, and that it's a pay as you go secondary account to your home account. Don't see how Winnegard can activate/create an account for a dish receiver being as they are not a company owned by Dish Network.

Winegard is partnered with Pace International who is an exclusive provider of Dish Satellite services for Dish Pay As You Go. When setting up a new account for Dish, if you call Winegard, they will actually transfer you to Pace International, who will do the actual setup. This is especially important if you are signing up for Pay As You Go. They are 100% US people, and understand RV's. Many times, the Dish call center personnel do not understand Pay As You Go. Once service is established, you are fine re-activating your receiver. They have that script.

My experience has been that I NEVER get a US person when calling to get the receiver going again. Same for DirecTV (had both).

Pace is the supplier of the Wally receiver for RV's (prior VIP211K and Z models). I have spoken with them face to face at trade shows.

Thank you for your explanation, Pusherman! That is exactly what I needed to know. I will go with the 1-800 number that came with the receiver. Makes sense to me! I definitely want to talk to someone who understands what we are doing (pay-as-you-go and in an RV). No reason to call Dish as we don't have a Dish account nor home receiver, since we are full-timers.

Cheers and thank you!

All done!

We got the dish and receiver all set up today, and it went very well! I did call the 800 number that came with the Wally receiver (different from the number that came with the dish, which was Winegard), and the announcement while I was waiting in queue did say that they were Pace.

I can't say that I got the friendliest rep I've ever had, but she was certainly in the US and got everything set up in a competent manner. We are good to go!
