Winegard In Motion Dome & DISH Network

I am a long time DIRECTV customer and will likely remain one for home service. However, the ability to get HD using the Winegard In Motion Dome on my new 2011 Tiffin Allegro Bus and the Pay As You Go Plan from DISH led me to purchase a DISH 211 Receiver and to sign up for a month of service.

So...my two questions:
Is it normal to get signal strength levels of only 50 or so with the Winegard Roadtrip SDI Dome when there are absolutely no obstructions and can morning dew on the dome reduce signal strength? All three satellites--110, 119, and 129--have about the same signal strengths in the 50 +/- range and the HD picture is great, but I am used to readings above 90 with DIRECTV.

Does DISH or anyone make an RF type remote control that will work without line of sight or glass to the DISH receiver like DIRECTV offers as an upgrade? The electronics in the Bus are within wood cabinets and Tiffin has installed a repeater system that will work everything except the DISH receiver. Having to leave the door open is a pain.

Thanks in advance for assistance with either or both of the issues.

The signal level you are seeing is typical of a dome antenna. It has a smaller dish and the cover further cuts the signal. The best dish receivers seem to indicate signal wise is about 70-75.

The 211k receiver doesn't have RF reception capability. You may have to resolve that with 3rd party solution. Dish does sell RF/IR remotes. I just bought 2 at Amazon for $14.99 each for my 722 receiver.

If you do a search over at TiffinRVNetwork.com there was a discussion about the 211k and the IR remote. One member said they got it to work on the 211k. Here is the link to that discussion:

The signal strength on my DISH service at home are all about 50. I remember sometime back seeing something from DISH about modifying the signal strength meter. The notice was something on the order that the signal was still the same strength but it now reads lower and is perfectly normal.
