Winegard OE-Dish Kit for Directv to Dish Conversion?
I contacted Winegard today to double check what I needed to convert my Directv Trav'ler to Dish. They said the RP-SK-11 and RP-SK-21 are not sufficient to convert the system. I would need the OE-Dish kit instead along with the DPH42. I sent Winegard the numbers off of the controller as well as the info from the Trav'ler turrent.
Being I have not read anything about this kit I am double checking Winegard.

I contacted Winegard and shipping was very reasonably which made it cheaper than if I got everything from Amazon. The OE-kit is basically the SK-11 and SK-21 in one big box.

I just ordered the SK-11 and the SK-21 which I am sure will not come with the conversion instructions. Where did you find the instructions? The mechanical part will be straight forward but how did you get the software to change to Dish from DirectTV. I checked my IDU and ODU software versions this morning and the were both at the minimum to make the conversion. The IDU was 1.00.02 and the ODU was 1.04.18.
So how is the conversion working for you? I am not sure yet if I will install the necessary components to make the Traveler compatible with the Hopper 3. May just go with a Hopper Duo in the coach.
Thanks,
Bob

The conversion has worked great. A plus for Dish is if there are trees blocking the Western arc satellites you can do a manual search for the 61.5 sat to watch the Eastern feeds. I had to do this several times on my just finished trip.

You're better off going with two Wallys as you get more tuners (4 vs 2). The Hopper Duo is POS.

The Wally only has one tuner and if you are recording you must watch the program that is being recorded. If you try to switch channels you will disrupt the recording. We like to watch one program and record another. We have the Hopper Duo at home and it works just fine. Not sure why you would call it a piece of s**t. Granted you cannot do the PrimeTimeAnyTime with the Duo but you can add the OTA adapter and mesh and record over the air broadcasting with the satellite content. To use the DVR on the Wally you must install an external USB drive. The downside to any version of Hopper is that it will not work with the portable Winegard Playmaker automatic dish. If you are using a Hopper in the motorhome and the roof mounted dish is blocked by trees you will need a tripod and standard manual dish. The fact that the Wally works with the Playmaker and the ability to turn the subscription on and off are the only advantages I see for the Wally.

Raymond,
Thanks for that link. That is what I need. Also thanks for the tip on the 61.5 satellite. I thought the Traveler would do that automatically so it is good to know that the manual search must be done. Is the same channels available on the Eastern feed and the Western feed?

Not all channels but most of them. Many local areas only have HD on 61.5.

The Wally can record and watch two Chanel’s ... if it’s connected to a full 3lnb dish. It’s only limited to one tuner by the portable models single lnb ( like the hopper)
Whe Wally dvr fee is a one time 40$” for all receivers on account “ fee to activate and there is no continuing monthly “dvr” or hopper fee
The Wally has many advantages , like the ability to control auto portable dishes. The 16 tuner hopper is wonderful but the Wallys in the rv give us more flexibility just no prime time anytime , but that’s only on the hopper 3 anyway.

Nope, it has 2 tuners when connected to an open-faced dish + 2 more if you connect a USB OTA dual tuner.

Let me count the ways . . .- The Duo only has a 500 GB hard drive (just like the VIP722 it replaced). You can add a much bigger hard drive to a Wally.
- A Hopper 3 is just $5 more per month and has a 2 TB hard drive, 16 tuners, PTAT, etc, etc
- Read this SatelliteGuys thread for a discussion of why the Hopper Duo is a dog.

Thanks, I was not aware the limitations to the Wally were due to the Playmaker. Since we are converting our Winegard Traveler to Dish the Wally may be the way to go for the coach. I have been reading stuff about Dish and the hardware available for days and my head is starting to resemble a kaleidoscope

Ok, thanks for the education. Just might go with a Wally in the coach if when connected to our Winegard Traveler it has two tuners. Hope that is with the standard LNB and not the Hybrid. We do not have the Hybrid LNB that is needed for the Hopper 3 in either the house, garage, or Winegard Traveler. May get dish to come out and upgrade the house to the Hopper 3 so we can do the PrimeTimeAnyTime. For the old farts we are the 500 GB limitation is not an issue. We just hate advertisements with a passion and use a TiVo Bolt connected to an over the air antenna so we can skip advertisements on recorded programs. It does not work on every show but most of the ones we watch. I expect the PrimeTimeAnyTime will be same. Evidently a flag must be inserted in the transmission for that feature to work and it is not always there.

If you have a Walley in the MH and a Hopper 3 in the House and good WIFI you can use the Dish Anywhere app and have 18 tuners. That is a lot of "ifs" but I have done it. I use Amazon Fire Stick in the TV to get the Dish Anywhere app.

This is what I do when I can. There needs to be a good internet connections at your RV and at your house to do this though.
