Howdy all,
We are contemplating adding a Winagard manual satellite dish with the Digital Magic option to our fifth wheel. One of our friends who has one speaks highly of it, but another friend, who also has one, says we'd be wasting our money. He says his loses the signal at the slightest hint of a breeze, but the first friend says his never moves unless the wind is in the gale-force area.
So, I'm soliciting your input - who has one of these setups, and do you like it?
Camping World sells it for about $310 (including tax and shipping) but I've found a place who sells the same setup, with a plastic cover for the base, for about $316 (including shipping). Will I be throwing money away, or is it a good system?
Thanks all,

A few months ago I had one installed. There is a locking device to prevent it from moving. Sounds like your friends is not put in correctly. Mine was moving but I caught it before leaving the lot. Tech did not have the plastic gear in far enough. Works like a charm now. I really like mine. I also use the digital meter they installed for the height.

We have the same setup, works fine, lasts a long time...
Another thing that is importent is that the shaft length is cut correctly. if not, you wil have slop in the operation, and possible loss of signal.
Get the specs on installation from Weingard, and know what to look for. Check it out before you accept the installation.

Tell your friend that Winegard has a "Wind Kit" available that will make a real difference.
My dish was under warranty when I got the kit so I don't know what it costs. Might be worth it for him to give them a call.

Thanks for the replies - it sounds like the wind issue has been dealt with, and shouldn't be a problem. As for installation, I will be doing it myself so if it's not done right I know who to take my complaints to ...
Our friend who had the problem solved it by installing a domed dish - I've got better things to throw money at, though!
