We are picking up our new/used Newmar Bay Star tomorrow morning. It comes with the Winegard TRAV'LER DIRECTV SLIMLINE KU/KA SK-3005.

We are Dish customers and have it in our stick house.

I am told that I can convert the Direct sk-3005 to a Dish 1000 with Winegard's conversion kit which is two part #s: RP-SK11 and RP-SK21. Total cost for the parts from Winegard is about $325 + shipping. I have the instructions:
http://www.winegard.com/kbase/upload/2452138.pdf It looks like a new arm with pickups, new Dish and mounting plate.....

Questions - Has anyone been through this conversion? I have searched for two days and Winegard's price for the parts is the best I can find from CW, local dealers, online, etc. Some dealers want upwards of $500 for the parts + shipping.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Bill

I've never done the conversion, but I have installed several of these units. It looks like it's pretty simple. Once you install the dish, arm, and lnb's just run the setup like it's a new installation.

On the DTV units, they are using standard DTV lnb's and reflector. Only the arm is different. You might be able to get the reflector and lnb from a source other than Winegard and save a few bucks. Just a thought, but probably not worth the trouble.

These are great units and should give you years of trouble free use.

I was thinking the same thing.

I have lnb's and arms....and two reflectors.

The reflector is only about $32. The arm, lnb's and adapter plate is the majority of the expense....about $280.

If the arms is different.....and something about when it all folds down.....that makes it different from the standard house-mount gear.

I can switch it to Dish or drop Dish and pick up Direct.....our contract is up but I hate to switch from Dish.

Thanks -

Bill
