Winegard SK1000

I have one of these mounted on my trailer, and I want to get it hooked up and running. It's apparently compatible with Dish...is it possible to change settings and use DirectTV?

Secondly, what is the best receiver to use for HD/DVR? Where is the best place to get it?

Any tips on hooking up and getting service started?

The previous answer was correct, but I thought it might help you to understand why the answer is "no" because I'm almost certain that someone will post that "I know there's a conversion kit for those Trav'ler's."

The DirecTV version of the Trav'ler used to be convertible to Dish with the use of a Winegard kit that cost a few hundred dollars. Going from DTV to Dish is Ok because the DirecTV dish was larger than the one used for Dish. At least this was true when the DirecTV Trav'ler was the SK-3005. I don't know for sure if this is still true for the SWM model with the SWM3 LNB.

However, going from Dish to DirecTV wasn't practical because it necessitated the replacement of the dish itself. But possibly now that the only DirecTV satellites being used are 99, 101 and 103 maybe the dish size is smaller and this might now be possible. You might want to call Winegard to be sure.

Travler conversions:

You can convert both the original DirecTV SK-3005 and the current SK-SWM3 to become a Dish Network SK-1000. If you save the parts, you can reverse the process and convert it back to DirecTV at a later date.

A factory SK-1000 can not be converted to anything else. ( Note: at one time years ago you could convert an SK-1000 to an SK-3003 which was a Directv standard def only antenna. However there are no longer any of those parts left.)

To convert a SK-SWM3 to Dish network you need two parts/kits. RP-SK11 and RP-SK21.
