If you do a search of this forum, you will find plenty of "pros" and few if any "cons". Winegard really got it right with this one.

As ernieh stated, it is highly recommended. We have one and it's been flawless. You get the open face, three LNB dish to get 110, 119 and 129 for a full featured dish that can run multiple, dual tuner receivers. It's silly simple to use, just level the RV and press a button. The price is a little stiff, but it's worth it.

I've had mine for about three years now. Thursday I switched out the DirecTV HD receiver for the newest generation DirecTV HDDVR, the HR24. The new receiver when used in a house now only requires one cable instead of two. I called Winegard and asked if their TravLer antenna would operate the new receiver and could I run just one lead. They were knowledgeable and told me that the TravLer did not have the SWM switch components to run a single cable, but would work fine using two cables as was done in the past.

The TravLer in its stock configuration can run three coax cables and comes with two when you buy it. I connected the HR24, which is substantially smaller, quicker and runs a lot cooler and it connected and fired up without an issue.

Just for info, the DirecTV receivers only come with one HDMI connection for an HD TV. Its possible to split the HDMI to two tv's, but it doesn't often work well. The receiver does have RCA outputs that I connected to a modulator ($20.00) that converts the RCA output to coax cable. I connect that to my rear TV. This gives me digital TV in my bedroom, but you have to watch what the front TV is watching. You can later add another receiver to the TravLer to provide HD Tv to another room.

I have had the Winegard SK3005 for a couple of years now and it has worked fine.

It picks up all five satellites but only 99,101, and 103 are normally used. The other two are used primarily for foreign language broadcasts I believe. They were used for some spot beamed locals, but I read that they are all on the three others now.

Joern,

Got to agree, I love my Winegard Traveler. I purchased mine as a non functional unit and took the chance that I could fix it. After I fixed the thing I could not wait to install it. I must admit I was (and still am) impressed. When I first got it working I pointed out my garage door and within a short time it was all done finding and peaking all the birds required for HD. It is fascinating to watch it work. I also carry a dish and a tripod for those occasions when I'm parked under a tree. Winegard help group is fantastic.

Don,

I ran an HDMI cable just this past weekend from the front of my MH to the rear and posted how I did it in the National Owners group. I will try to get a link to my post in the event you are interested. What I did was I purchased a 50 foot HDMI cable and an amplified splitter. I tested the cable by itself and it worked just fine but since I needed to split the signal I thought it should also be amplified. I bought everything through Amazon and it works like a champ. Total cost <$50.00. I do have to watch the same thing on both sets but as you said I could add a 2nd receiver. I also have a way of connecting the HDMI out of my DVD player and sending that to the rear TV. With this setup one TV can watch the DVD or Satellite while the other watches whatever that person wants. Either set can watch the same or different device.

Only problem you will have when moving the satellite receiver to and from the MH is you will have to go into the setup and change from SWM to standard 2 wire and back again. No big deal.

~Bill

I can not figure how to put in a quick link but this should get you there. This is a link to my post on installing an HDMI cable to the rear of my coach.

Hi LindaH,

I was trying to figure out how to do a hyper link but gave up. I will try your idea here. Thanks.

Thanks again, looks like it might work. ~ Bill

It's a great unit.

I ran two cables from the antenna along the roof, fastened by the existing roof screws, all the way to the rear of the coach, down the ladder and into the rear of the rig and into the bedroom. I have my DirecTV HD DVR receiver in the bedroom pluged into a HD LCD TV, with a front loading DVD player. My Traveler antenna has 4 coaxial cable outputs.

The system has worked flawlessly for 3 years now.

Here are several old posts I made about my installs---

Here I go again--TV updated

I upgraded my two TV's to HD--

Oh, I inadvertently gave it (the antenna) the 65mph test, in the raised position for about 70 miles- ugh, but all is well-

Good luck,

Max H

Has anyone run into height issues with these units mounted on the roof?

Not unless you intend to drive down the road with it in the up position! Their resting profile is pretty low.

textman ,

In the "stored" position the antenna is about half the height of the A/C units- 10 inches.

If you didn't look close you wouldn't know it was there.

While in Quartzsite last week we had a Winegard Mini-Max dome unit installed on our coach.

Insofar as we only have a standard non-HD receiver we opted for an automatic non in-motion unit which works great.

We really didn't need the in-motion unit as DW usually reads a book, works crossword puzzles or sleeps while we're traveling down the highway.

However, I inquired about the in-motion dome type units and was told by the technician they're rather noisy as the internal mechanism is constantly moving making adjustments to maintain a good signal. Of course I wondered if one could hear it over the road and engine noise.

Good luck with your choice and travel safe

Another satisfied Winegard Trav'ler user. Have the SK3005 SlimLine. Works great, two lines connected to the HD DVR in LR and a line to the BR to a second HD Rcvr. Level the unit, connect power, push the button, then go back outside and connect water, sewer, etc. by the time you're done TV is running with all you favorite channels. If you go this route, I would highly suggest also getting the Heavy Duty Mounting Plate. It provides a much stronger base for the Dish and also provides a bearing surface for the front roller when in the stowed position.
