Winegard Trav'ler antenna problems

Have a 3-year old automatic-seeking dish that tries to raise for a couple of seconds and stops. Trying again will raise it slightly more, and eventually have to go up on the roof and lower it manually before traveling. Of course Winegard says the complete turret needs to be replaced for over $1000, but the gears and all visible components look perfect. I feel that it's an electronic glitch but don't know how to check anything and Winegard offers no help whatsoever. I would like to check it out myself first, and then seek a repairman (not a replacement person as I could handle that myself) near Palm Desert, CA.

Have you completely unplugged it and let it sit for a few minutes (reboot). I would also check the controller cable at the antenna to make sure it has a good connection. The connection could be dirty and not supplying power. Lastly....do you have any friends with the same unit. If so, maybe they'll let you borrow their controller box and see if that's the issue.

If you are capable to remove the satellite dish from your coach, another option is to take it off, send it to Winegard. They will diagnose the problems, call you for authorization, and then rebuild the unit based on what's ailing it. Shipping ain't cheap, but the repair should be way less than $1,000 (not counting your labor to remove and re-install the Trav'ler).

You must call Winegard before doing this, and get a RMA from them to follow the unit through the repair process.

Doug,

First, which model Travler is it? SK1000 SK3003 or SK3005?

Next is there any error message dislayed on the IDU? If so, what is the error?

Don
