You won't regret getting the RF Mogul. Sturdily made, great tech support and completely repairable in the field. Plus you get that cool blue LED shining into the sky :-).

I am surprised they haven't gained a stronger hold on the market. I guess Winegard is more recognizable to many (been making TV antennae for years). I believe as more folks get RF Mogul units, they will start to become more popular.

I can guarantee if I'm ever in the market again it will NOT be Winegard.

The $400 price spread may have something to do with it.

I am sure it does but in this case, IMO you get what you pay for. When I had my Traveler removed and replaced with the RF Mogul, I had the opportunity to inspect both of them up close side by side. The difference in overall build material, sturdiness and quality was obvious. The turret mechanism on the Traveler was loose and floppy compared to the much more rigid mechanism on the RF Mogul. Plus all the brains for the RF Mogul is contained inside the controller box which is inside the coach. Much of the 'controls' for the Traveler sits under the turret.....hard to access if repair needed.

Well the Trav'ler on the trailer has been in use for 4 years with no problems. The Bounder Trav'ler is 1-1/2 years in use with no problems and the Bounder dish was only $1200, that is a $700 spread. It is your money.

I buy things that work so that I don't have to fix them.

I'm glad you haven't had problems with your Traveler Dish ... We haven't - it has actually been replaced now 3 times and it is still a piece of garbage. We have an AZ Motor Stall error now and that equates to the dish pointing straight up (like an EL error, but much worse). Means I have to take the dish down, send it to Winegard (my dime); $75 for them to diagnose it and give me an "estimate" to fix it. Could run as much as $1200 plus shipping and reinstallation. No thank you ... I'll spend the $1,850 for a RF Mogul and pay to have it installed and be done with it.

Interesting experience. I am having the same problem and Winegard They concluded was a bad motor or board inside the base. Told me the dish is "too old", so they do not have the parts... but the'll sell me a refurb dish for $800, with a 1year warranty. That's half the warranty and a little more than half price for the dish. I think it might be the cable or control box. Their diagnostic procedure in the manual is essentially "call support" for everything that is not very obvious, like "is it plugged in" or "check for obstruction". Once talking to customer support they do not really have any diagnostics, just smoke and mirrors followed by selling you something.

So the whole dish assembly is sitting in the garage. Tomorrow I will try to bench test it after I check the control cable for continuity.

After my Trav'ler controller and my Directv receiver told me they could't talk to the dish, I changed the coaxial jumper from the base to the LNB with regular RG6 coax that I cut to the proper length and added fittings. Everything is working just fine now.

This last weekend a friend of mine had the same problem and I fixed the issue by making a new jumper of RG6.

Here is what I found when I did my forensic analysis. The coax fitting that screws into the base is the problem. The factory coax fittings have an "O" ring that protects the coax jumper from introducing water into the base fitting or the LNB fitting. BUT there is NO protection from water entering the coax fitting where the coax enters the backside of the coax connector on the base fitting. The water corrodes the connection in the fitting where the coax center conductor is attached to the center pin of the connector, thus the failure. See photos attached.

And I was getting ready to purchase a new Trav'ler with the hybrid LNB from Amazon ($1500) and do a self install.
I'm tired of the one tuner limitations of the G3 dome dish (permanent roof install).

Now...in reading these 2017 posts I gotta believe that the latest Trav'ler iteration is an improved machine for reliability and function.

Guess I'll continue to "mull it over" for a time until I get enough fortitude to pull the trigger.

I bought & installed my trav'ler 9 years ago replacing the obsolete (skyview or whatever it was) mushroom that came on my '04 american eagle...the best part of the replacement was not running new cable through the roof..was able to use the existing cable just needed to convert colors of winegard to the old wires & i was up & running in about 4 hrs. The only issue i've ever had since then was the cable from the lnb to the base unit went bad as i seen from others trav'ler owners & one reset when it got stuck in the travel mode because of the power to the coach from the park pedestal went out & on a couple times freezing it up..got the code to reset & got it down.

Ordered the Hybrid Trav’ler sk-1000 today off Amazon @ $1509 (Prime 2 day shipping + 5% cash back)
Also, will mount it on the large roof support mounting plate (got an open box price of $60)

I’ll DIY the install next week and report back.
