Hi- I am thinking of surprising my husband with a roof mounted satalite dish but don't know which one? Any advice would be appreciated.

Lila - If you want HD and use Direct TV you need an open dish not a dome. If you want HD and use Dish TV you can get either. We have a Motostat open dish to get HD Direct. Motosat is a competitor of Winneguard but in my humble opinion a bit better made. I was a stickler for quality as our last dome tore up it's plastic gears in 7 years.

i think the only way to go these days is the Winegard SLimline SK3005. i have DirecTV HD and it works great, reception has not been a problem.

if i am outside of the 200mile radius for my home local channels, i usually have good luck with the batwing. i am looking seriously at replacing it with the JACK digital antenna.

I have Directv and have had both Winegard and Kingdome. I bought the Winegard for two previous coaches and the Kingdome came on the new Winnebago. I could not receive HD on any of these systems. I have not had any problems with the Kingdome other than it is a bit slower to lock on to satellites. I had a drive motor that positions the dish go out in my last Winegard. I use the batwing with booster for local channels when outside my home Directv area.

Most of the parks we stay at have cable tv, so we use that for locals.
The 'batwing' on the roof probably works, but in a year & a half, still can't find where the cable comes into the coach. Have practically torn the front of MH apart looking for it, maybe someday.......

I second the vote on the Winegard Trav'ler SK3005. I replaced an older Kingdome with the Trav'ler and am completely satisfied. Always finds the birds, HD, good signal and no rain fade.

I have the King Dome automatic dome antenna. I love it with respect to once we pull it to a campground (without too many trees) and I plug in, by the time I've got the setup the coach the sat antenna is already receiving signals. However, what I don't like about it is when it's raining, or there's some thunderbumper clouds in the path it loses signal very easily. This didn't happen nearly as much with the open sat antenna like the SK3005.
Oh, and I replaced my batwing over the air antenna with the Jack Digital. I really like it. Don't have to worry about lowering it, and the built in signal meter really makes it easy to find the best signal. It's the same height as the dome and not as tall as the a/c units.

Ditto the Wineguard SK3005 works great. I just replaced my KVH dome with one.

Bob, the Jack Digital sounds like something I'd like to install, as I use my batwing regularly. However, I don't know anything about it. Like, "where can I buy it"? Is it easy to install or do I need a tech to install it?
