Winegard vs KVH6

Which roof mount dome tracking satellite do you prefer? Which performs the best?

I have a KVH 6 and it has been working great. Low profile is nice.

#1 No dome system can receive HD on DirecTV

#2 Dome systems can only receive multiple channels at the same time, as is required if you want to watch one channel and record another, if the two channels happen to be broadcast from the same satellite.

#3 The smaller dish size and the losses at the dome surface result in weaker signals compared to those with a full size dish and the Winegard Trav'er.

I guess you can see why I never seriously considered any dome system after having had one once before.

If it were me I would seriously consider alternatives to the Dome systems. The HD limitations with domes have been previously pointed out.

I have had a KVH Dome for 7 years and was happy with it. I use Dish Net. I also had the non HD Dish Satellite dish system on a portable tri pod. Very seldom did I use the KVH dome.

A few yeas ago I went with HD TV's and a portable HD satellite dish. Kept the KVH for a spare.

Last year I installed the Winegard Traveler but still have the KVH dome as a spare because the Traveler required a slightly larger mounting space. Also have the portable HD satellite dish as another spare. For trees.

I seriously doubt I'll ever use the KVH again and it's a great little system. However, HD is becoming the standard in RV's and once you have HD in the RV it's like the House tv's. You'll never go back to SD tv.

I believe that unless someone comes out with a dome equivalent to the Traveler, current dome systems will become obsolete. MHO.
