About to embark full time and looking for a combo wireless printer/scanner that will work.

Plan to use a lap top and a Verizon modem and with (of course) limited space we're struggling to find the right devise.

Other factors are:
  1. We think it will end up fairly high in a cabinet, wouldn't use it often (once a week?) so would probably run an extension cord to power it when needed.
  2. They all seem to be relatively heavy so wrestling it out of a cabinet or drawer or leaving it out are not appealling. Full-Frontal access would be ideal.
  3. Would it be a bear to re-connect if unplugging between uses? Re enter password etc.?
  4. Ink costs always an issue too.
Suggestions?

The advantage of inkjets is the very low power consumption. I'm using a Brother MFCJ410W. Relative low cost and sips a tiny 3w in standby mode. Doesn't mind MSW inverter power.

I like the brother printers because of their Linux support. They also have an android app for the J series printers that lets me print and scan directly from my phone.

So far I've been happy. This printer does not seem to have the mysterious disappearing ink problem I've had with other inkjets.

Our last 2 printers have been HP printers and we have been very happy. One used an Ethernet wired connection and the current one is wireless. Of course, to use a wireless printer you are going to need an in-house network including a router or some kind of ICS.
Our current printer was purchased at Sam's Club for about $50 as it was cheaper to replace the router than have someone take a look at repairing the old one.
The unit is quite light and quite small so where you install it would not be an issue. I am told that the replacement ink for a Kodak printer is cheaper but we have had such good success with our HP printers (2 in the last 8 years) that it was an easy choice to make the move to this new one. We currently are using the HP D110 series printer.

I'm a fan of Brother and have a Brother MFC-J615W. Have used Brother for many years with good results.

Like has been said before, you will have to have a router and a network set up to use a wireless printer.

I also have had great luck with the Epson Workforce series. We don't leave ours on a shelf but put it away under the bed when we move. Otherwise it is under the bedroom TV where there is an electric plug in and it is on all the time. This makes it convenient to use at any time. I think the benefit of having a wireless device would be reduced if you had to go and plug in an extension cord each time you wanted to use it. Our printer automatically connects to the wireless network (Linksys router) when it is turned on.

Ours is not a scanner (I rarely need a scanner), but just a wireless laser printer from Brother (P1102w). It had the smallest physical footprint I could find in a wireless laser, it is light and fits well in the cabinet above the dinette, where I use my laptop. We just plug it in to the outlet on the underside of the cabinet and leave it when we are parked with hook-ups.

$99 on sale, as I recall.

We use the Millenicom (Verizon) aircard, and already have a wireless network since there are 2 of us; the P1102 sets up like a breeze. Routers are cheap, and if you don't already have a wireless network, you'll love it when you get set up.

I've had very good service from the Brother MFC490s and MFC495. Cost from $49 to $79, comes with scanning software and the ink cartridges are available at Walmart. I also have a Brother MFC5440 in the house.

I recently bought a Canon printer/scanner/copier at Fry's on sale and it is in the motorhome. I later found the same model regular price $1.00 cheaper at WalMart.

I got a sale flyer from Target, and they have an HP Deskjet 1055 wireless printer/scanner/copier on sale until July 31st for $29.99. Use a Target credit card for your purchase and get 5% off.

Sounds like that one is all about the ink.

Seems to be the trend lately.

I need to get tied into one of those refillable ink cartridge methods.

Or buy a laser printer and leave those slow, expensive ink-jets in the last century
