2009 Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles will offer an option of allowing owners to turn their cars and trucks into wireless Internet hotspots. The wireless Internet will come as a dealer-installed option and will work over cellular telephone links. There will be a monthly fee of $29 for the service and a one-time $35 activation fee. The wireless router will cost $449.

The wireless system will work while vehicles are moving so they can be used by passengers. Not sure if any RV OEM's will pick up on this but it'd probably be a very popular option.

I already rolled my own. It's in my Enclave now, and will be in the KADB next week.

Cradlepoint router with Sprint air card (USB, actually), plugged into the inverter outlet in the car. Works with our laptops and our iPhones. The router didn't cost $449 either. But the Sprint plan is a lot more than $29/mo. I wonder what the data limit is on that Chrysler plan? I bet it's some low-ball limit and you need to upgrade it to get a decent amount of data transfer per month.

I have been a rolling HotSpot for a year now! I use a Phoebus router and a Verizon card. We have three laptops using the wireless. Very inexpensive and powerful tool.

Me too.. DIR-450 & Sprint card
SSID: 'CAMPLAN' (get it?)

It'll run 1/2w when needed for the neighbors.
